I have another pair of Shimano dual platform/clip in pedals (M324 SPD flat combination) on my hybrid which I really like but they are pretty heavy duty so I decided to give this lighter weight model a try on my road bike. Out of the box, the bearings felt smooth and free. After fitting them to cranks I adjusted the tension on the SPD clips to about mid range and snapped my SPD cleats into them. Wow they sure gripped tight. I ended up backing the tension off to absolute minimum setting and that seems to be fine. This might all be dues to the things being new with no wear. Anyway, if you like your cleats to be firmly attached these will do it. As for the platform. It's mostly fine for what they're designed to do i.e. provided the convenience of being able to ride with normal tennis shoes which is just what I was looking for. However, I cannot give five stars. The reason is that I felt my shoes sliding around a bit too much on the platform. I don't have that problem with the M324 model on my hybrid. I think Shimano might need to give the platform a bit more grip. The raised bumps you can see in the image just don't do it.Read full review

I bought these recently to put on my new hybrid bike. Reason being, if I want to take a short ride in the neighborhood, I can use the platform side, rather than getting out the bike shoes. If you intend to ride only with bike shoes, I'd recommend getting the similar 2 "SPD" sided pedals. All in all, these are nice pedals and a lot easier to get out of than a pure road pedal. They look really sharp too, and Shimano is very high quality 😆

The Shimano PD-A530 isn't going to win you any major races or make you faster but its a great starter "clip" on style pedal with the option to go clip less when needed. Perfect pedals for the weekend cyclists and weekday commuters! I've had the older version PD-A520 for quite awhile and never had any issues with them on my last bike so I decided to go ahead and order the newer versions for my newest bike because of the longevity, durability, quality and ease of use from these pedals. The price was also a no brainer for someone who isn't going to be a hardcore cyclist but wants something that they can use to help you become a better cyclist while also doubling as a normal pedal for those days where you just want to wear normal shoes to do leisurely rides.

I have tried numerous pedals... sometimes, they start out fine for the first 30 miles or so... and then I get some metatarsal pain... the best solution is to move my feet around... the pain goes away. Having a platform on the flip side is the ideal solution to this situation. To clip or not to clip... you choose.

I have used many different Mtn bike pedals, and I think I like these the best. Nice to be able to use them for casual rides and serious rides. I had to buy SPD cleats as well, as my old cleats (crank bros?) did not work - but no big deal.
