Great set to finally own. Images are sharp and clear with fine color. The Blu-Ray presentation is notably better than the comparable DVD and worth any minor cost difference. If you freeze a frame you will still notice distinct "grain" in the image, but remember, these are copied from 1980s TV production sources so that is to be expected and this is never noticed at all when in play mode. Interiors are sharp and well defined with no notable background blur or annoying darkness in any scenes, unless appropriate. ___ The filming locations are quite stunning. Some UK viewers will likely recognize many of the more famous country mansions used in the filming. I had forgotten how beautiful the countryside looked... actually, I had probably never appreciated it when viewed over the limitations of even a high quality but smaller size 1980s television. The actors all do a fine job and Jeremy Brett ranks as one of the best of the Sherlock Holmes characterizations filmed over the many decades. ___ Extra Features are minimal and mainly consist of interviews from years ago with the actors and were typically made for British TV promotions of the series. They are mainly attached to the last disk of each season and are of little worth, but nice to have them included all the same. ___ Aspect ratio is the original older (narrower) TV format and I think that was a better choice than the studio "trying" to adequately stretch or crop the screen image to conform with modern widescreen TV standards. ___ The packaging is less than perfect. The textured leather book binding look of the slipcase would suggest better. The 12 Blu-Ray discs are held on six single-sided "pages" made of rigid clear plastic, each holding two discs overlapping... not my first choice. But this is only a minor personal gripe. It is still nice to have the entire opus contained within a single package rather than presented as individual seasons (also available). ___ Also included in this package is a handy 52 page booklet which describes each episode. And not only the roughly hour long series episodes are included in this set; you also have the five original made for British TV feature length movies, all made by the same production company and with the same actors. ___ Overall, this is light years beyond either old studio made VHS tapes (which were always hazy and unclear at best) and also superior to the same versions also now presented in DVD format. So, really just go for the Blu-Ray package. Definitely a set which you will treasure and will want to pass on to another generation.Read full review
Jeremy Brett is the best Sherlock ever. The scripts are very close to the books. To have these films in their newly remastered versions and on BluRay to boot was almost too much to hope for. Absolutely marvelous.

Jeremy Brett is hands down the best Sherlock Holmes ever. I am so glad Granada released the entire series. I'm really enjoying it.

Why would this series be converted to blu-ray and not add subtitles and chapter divisions ? seems a bit odd and lessens the viewers enjoyment experience.
