Kenny Wayne Sheppard has gone back to the south, and found blues legends, which he interviews and performs with. The interviews are in small bars, porches, churches and kitchens. This is a phenomenal look into the origins of the blues. The live recordings feature Kenny Wayne playing with B.B.King, Hubert Sumlin, Members of Muddy Waters band(Pine Top Perkins), and members of Howlin Wolf's band. Kenny Wayne has made a Great movie here. I've seen him live many times, and always been pleased. Except when I saw The Rides, but that wasn't his fault. I believe Steven Stills is deaf, because he was playing so loud, and ruined the most of that show. If you love BLUES, you'll appreciate this dvd/cd combination.

If you love the Blues and appreciate it's history this DVD/CD is a must. Kenny Wayne Shepherd and Stevie Ray Vaughan's rythym section tour the South and hook up with many Blues artists to document this great American music form. Great music and great stories from folks who may not be around much longer to share their talents. In fact several of the featured artists are no longer with us. Gatemouth Brown, Cootie Starks, and a few others have joined the great Blues jam in the sky. The CD is great listening but the DVD is better in the sense that it documents the music with stories told from the artists themselves. From BB King to Muddy Water's and Howlin' Wolf's backup bands the stories are riveting and make for great story telling. To see great music being performed on front porches and in kitchens in the deep South is what Blues history is all about. I feel you can not find anything better at documenting the great American art form we call the Blues. It is a joy to watch and will make you appreciate the wonderful people that create this music.Read full review
This was the direction which Kenny had to take (in my humble opinion). His last album (The Place You are In)was not up to par. For the last album he fell from on top of the fence (where he had been sitting between Blues and Rock). That album was meant to be Rock. This one (and the review is about this one) is pure Blues. It is old school, great Blues as done (mostly) by the originals themselves. The additional personel Kenny Wayne, Double Trouble, Noah and... are perfect. KWS is able to restrain to allow the spotlight to be on those that molded his musical influence. Not to sound corny... but there is a lot of heart and soul in this music. Five Stars - no doubt!
This is an entertaining and valuable piece of living history. My grandson plays guitar and I sent him a copy, too, because I want him to feel these guys before they're gone. Anyone who loves the Blues, has been influenced by the Blues, or has a sense of the history of American music will love this combination CD & DVD. KWS does us all a solid favor with this work and shows himself to be a warm, authentic human being and a fan just like the rest of us. He is very talented and gets to play with many of our greatest Blues musicians, but he understands it is not about him. I'm a bigger KWS fan now than ever.
This is an unbelievable cd/dvd that anyone who appreciates the blues must have. The dvd has interviews and live music with some legendary performers and the cd is a collection of songs from those same performers. Kenny Wayne Shepherd has hit the road to churches, clubs, even people's houses to get a personal view of who these people truly are. His interaction with all of the artists shows his appreciation of the roots of the music. What made me decide to purchase this set? Simply, the people that were involved. Watch the dvd and you will see what I mean. No words could describe the content of the interviews and songs on the cd/dvd.
