This is a cheap, nasty lens, the usual minimum complement to a number of Soviet cameras, both M42 and M39 mount. It wa sold as an enlarging lens as well. It began life as a replacement for the original FED 50, a copy of the famous Leica Elmar, and is in fact a copy of the equally famous Zeiss Tessar. The differences between the two lenses are in focal h(the FED is 50 mm and the Industar is 52.4 mm) and in the placement of the diaphragm: the Fed's diaphragm is between the first two elements and the Industar's is between the third and fourth. This lens was made literally by the millions and in several variations. The older lenses have metal bodies, prone to corrosion, while the later lenses, black in color, don't corrode. The lens coating is of variable quality and execution; the good ones are fine but later ones often have poor and incomplete coating. This said, all of them are sharp and useful; Soviet lenses often look awful but generally produce worthwhile results. A design defect is the diaphragm control, inconveniently placed around the front element and largely prevent any adjustment when a lens hood is installed as well as making the lens difficult to use reversed. But this lens is usually good value and a good performer with a tiny size.Read full review

F3.5, so not very fast but extremely compact to make up for it, easy to slip into a pocket and it's worth doing because this little lens is sharp and also has agreeable out-of-focus effects. My copy had never been used but was also a very good one, optically and mechanically - the rings turn smoothly, with no aperture clicks, making it a good manual filming lens for inconspicuous mid-distance work. These are still cheap lens as hundreds of thousands were made - reliable alex-ukr-alex provided mine.

Volvería a hacerlo
I purchased the M39 mount version of this lens for use with my Pentax K-5ii. I used an original pentax screwmount adapter with a m42 to m39 adapter. No problems focusing to infinity. The lens takes great pictures. Its very sharp, but requires a lot of light.
