This is just a quick run down for those interested in reading Feist's works. There are two major War series. The first, the Riftwar series starting with the Magician books, and the second, the Serpentwar series. The titled book above is in the Serpentwar series. To have a true appreciation for the second series, you must first read the Riftwar set. I say this because it introduces you to characters and background that will help you understand many of the players and their motives. I would also suggest reading the Kings Buccaneer and Princes of Blood because those two stand alone novels introduce characters like Nakor, a very important player in the Serpentwar, as well as setting up what happens to the two main characters in the Serpentwar series. If I were to describe Feist's work in these novels I can honestly say that they are brilliant. Probably the best, long running, series out there. Feist does have some shortcomings though. It is my opinion that a reader should stay away from the Krondor series. Its not a fan favorite and for good reason. I think the translation from game to books just didnt sit well with me. There currently is a third wars series in the works dealing with the Conclave of shadows. Since that timeline has yet to be played out I will leave it to the reader to finish the first two and continue on as they wish. As for myself, the new series is so far an interesting one, and has some great twists and changes outside of Feist's norms. I hope that this short review has helped in some way, and have a great time reading the novels. As a side note for collectors. If you enjoy collecting hardbacks like I do, I suggest purchasing a paperback copy of each novel to read. I have reread the novels so many times my paperbacks are falling apart, but they have saved the condition of the originals and were well worth the wait.Read full review
