This is the second one of these I've installed. The unit is sufficiently small it will fit almost anywhere. The circuit is very quiet and the choice of frequencies is very musical (in both positions of the treble switch). My one quibble (and the only reason I've dinged it one star) is the choice of knobs it comes with. I know I'm an old traditionalist but I'd like to bet a very few guitars come fitted with flat black control knobs. The additional expense of getting some chrome knobs to match all the other knobs hurts but c'est la vie.

I put this in a bass that had really mediocre pickups--weak and wimpy. I loved the bass otherwise--it was comfortable to play and looked great. I was hoping this preamp would spice up the pickups and make the bass sound great, and it amazed me how good it sounds now. The install was fairly easy; if you have experience soldering things, you'll do OK here. If not, any guitar tech should be able to install it for you. It's worth buying.

I installed this tone circuit on my jazz bass clone which has vintage Seymour Duncan active PJ pickups (ones that have dip switches on the pickups) along with two 25k CTS volume pots and I have to say this EQ is really fun to play with. If you turn the bass all the way up it will hurt, so I keep that at 25%. Turning the treble beyond 50% sounds really good (think Jaco) and there's so much versatility and range in just one mod. The way to go if you have an active bass setup IMHO. Also the knobs themselves are really high quality and feel and look amazing. Props to SD for the packaging and including a stereo jack and 9v connector and making an all around great product, you definitely get your money's worth.

This preamp brought my precision bass to life! I now get great tone not matter what type of music I'm playing. I can get hi-fi slap tones to growling rock tones. It still preserves the natural tone of my bass, but provides more output and tone shaping capabilities. I've received lots of complements for my tone at live gigs. It was inexpensive and easy to install. I'm going to buy another one to put in my jazz bass.

I like it, made my bass with musicman style pickup a monster guitar. Some like passive, some active sound on the bass, it nails the active for me.
