I've had all of Sergio Mendes vinyl LPs in my collection for many years and it really helped to shape for taste for world music, latin jazz, bossa nova. Though some of Sergio's work in the 80's & 90's wasn't a total groove for me, I bought this one, having heard That Heat on FM radio one night. The song That Heat(Sergio & friends, including Erika Badu) samples clips from the original Brazil 65 or 66 classic Slow Hot Wind. The first time I listened to the CD I thought it was good but was kinda spoiling the classic Brazil 66 hits. After a few more listens I determined it's really brilliant! The performances, the arrangements, the recording mix, the overall vibe: perfecto! I tend to be adventurous with older music, not really new music much. It's that older music from the past(Brazil 66), that brought me to listen to this CD, and in the process, it exposed me to Erika Badu, Will I. Am(which in turn got me a lot more hip to the Black Eyed Peas), and exposed me to Justin Timberlake, who I hadn't heard much and had sort of written him off as another media-made pop star like Justin Bieber, etc. Man, was I wrong about Timberlake, excellent pipes! One of the other vocalists on this CD that really impressed me: John Legend. His contribution "Don't Fall In Love With Me" is at once a classic, his voice the perfect range and style for this tune! Sergio Mendes... muito brigado pra voce e voce musica super bom bom bom!! Read full review

Timeless would certainly describe Sergio and his ability to continue to make great music with others. The music Sergio's band plays is so fantastic you think they just couldn't get any better. WillIAm ( the blackeyed peas man )is the initiator of this project i am told. He has been a great fan for years. What an opportunity to hear others sing with this very dancable, samba like music. Mas Que Nada is the samba song with a little hip-hop style added. From there - every song is graced by a new vocalist or band, like - Erakah Badu, Stevie Wonder, Q-Tip and Will.I.Am, Mr. Vegas, Jill Scott, John Legend, Marcelo D2, India Arie, Justin Timberlake, Guinga and Marcelo D2, Maogani Quartet, Black Thought of the Roots, and who knows who else!! What a true gift in this hugely talented Sergio Mendes CD with so much talent added. chow - seaforst3.Read full review
Maybe I'm just not old enough to really appreciate what sergio mendes has done through his career, but I expected a lot more from this album. There are a few tracks which sound amazing and I have had them on constant repeat for weeks! However, there doesn't seem to be that much effort in making some of the songs sound more modern (i thought that was the whole point of the album!). The first (Mas Que Nada - featured in the Nike Joga Bonito Commerciala) and last songs are my two favourites and there are a few good bits in between. A really good album to chill out too and appreciate good music, but with the collaboration with Will-I-Am of the Black Eyed Peas, I expected an upbeat album but it just didn't quite meet my expectations.
This album is fantastic. A beautiful mix of latin sounds with hip hop beats. The latin fusion tracks are first rate. Although I’m not a hip hop fan those tracks were pretty good too.

When I happened to come across this album I was excited. I love Sergio Mendes' and what he has brought to Samba music incorporating the rhythms and beats superbly! And then to add the Black Eyed Peas to that - talk about the brink of pure success. Needless to say I wasn't disappointed. I love all of the tracks on the album from Mas Que Nada to the Heat. You have the talents of John Legend, Indie.Arie and Justin Timberlake to the mixture as if it needed any more with the Black Eyed Peas and you can't help but play this album over and over again!
