great show
As of this writing, I am still watching the show. I am nearing the end of the first season which I have never seen before. A real good half hour episodes filled with thrilling excitement. I can see why the show was expanded to one hour, allowing more time for the plot to develop. Many of these episodes I saw when I was in grammar school. Although I no longer remember them and have not seen them since, I do remember enjoying the show and I have always liked Patrick McGoohan ( Ice Station Zebra, The Silver Streak, Braveheart, Columbo)- a great actor/director.As of this writing, I am still watching the show. An EXCELLENT Alternative to James Bond
If you are not a big fan of James Bond-style British spies (like me), you may just like Danger Man/Secret Agent. Patrick McGoohan plays John Drake, a different style of secret agent. He uses his brain and acting abilities more than violence, and while he deals with women in just about every episode, he doesn't hop into bed with them just to make a scene interesting. The McGoohan technique of rebuking a sexy woman's advances is chuckle-provoking in that he is so darn sexy as he does it! In fact, it is actually rather touching when he actually does indeed bond with a female character, even if only a little bit. When violence does appear, it is usually in the form of good old masculine fist-fights. You can tell that McGoohan was an amateur boxer while in school just by the way he moves. ... Biographers have stated that he took those fight scenes very seriously. As for this DVD set, the earlier 30-minute episodes aren't quite as taught as the later 60-minutes ones, but are very watchable, even if McGoohan's American accent does slip at times. In the later series, he is back to being British (Irish?). Some of the story lines, like those from South Africa, are slow and very dated, but for the most part the plots are good. In short, highly recommended unless you like lots of violence and sex. Personally, I prefer good acting, good directing, good scripts, and (yes, I'll say it) Patrick McGoohan's looks.
