The old Sky+ drive was getting noisy so I replaced it with this one which is the same size and model. Works well for this application.

Most people who use a computer now enough about Hard Drives, and that they store information. These particular drives are quite old in computer terms, are slow, being ATA100’s, and not recommended as primary hard disk in any near modern machine, but they are excellent for back-ups, or anything else which uses a PATA drive, but does not require modern-day high speed data transfer speeds. They maybe a little aged, but there are still plenty of uses for them.
I needed this item for a media center I'm building for under the TV, the Seagate is a work horse, the 7200 rpm feels like a 10'000, I've used these FOREVER. I've even opened up sealed failed units and fixed them! And every external hard drive that has ever served me well has (unbeknown to me) had these inside. They are cheap yes, but only because they use tried and tested tech that can't be improved upon. Even the SSD's around now that are in the tech's infancy beat these only in SOME aspects but still fail on many others. I have one of these (unwrapped/unprotected) that I carry around to test PC's (it looks like it belongs to a hobo) but it NEVER fails.
