I have not read The Scarpetta Factor yet - I purchased all of the books in the Scarpetta series and, even though I've read some of the latest books, started with the first and am working my way down. I enjoy these books very much and recommend them highly. I've never purchased a complete series of books until these - I know I'll enjoy these for many years to come.

Patricia Cornwell again takes us into the world of Kay Scarpetta, and gives us another exciting read. We know the characters by name, but each book tells us a bit more about our old friends, as their lives change and grow. They are all here, Marino, Benton, Lucy, and Kay, ready to do whatever it takes to find answers. Dr. Scarpetta continues to evolve and find new ways to share her expertise, this time as an analyst for CNN. But being in the public eye attracts more than a fair share of unwanted attention, danger and life threatening situations. Cornwell again shows her incredible talent to combine the world of forensics that she knows intimately, with a cast of characters that she continues to breath life into, and give us another chapter in their lives. It is hard to put down, and you want to turn the pages to find out how it all works together, and yet, you don't want the book to end. The plot twists and turns, and takes your breath away again and again. Read it, savor it, I for one look forward to Kay and friends to live to a ripe old age (please!!!) and being immersed in their world again and again!Read full review
I bought the book because I've read all in the Scarpetta Series and the synopsis intrigued me. I thought this book, while keeping true to the characters, was able to bring fresh interest in the characters' lives and background. I also felt that while I've liked the character of Kay Scarpetta, this book seemed to flesh out the imperfections in this woman that makes her more human and takes nothing away from her professionalism and skill. The problem I have with the book, is it is over *smile* and I have to wait for another.
If you are familiar with all of the players in this book, it is easy to understand. If not, you will be lost and have to continue reading the words to the end. I have all of the Patricia Cornwell book series and this one was a bit over the top for me. It did not bite me in the first chapter as most of her books do, but I finished it and hope that the next Scarpetta book goes back to the early days, more intrique and mystery.
Interesting, exciting, etc. can be enjoyed as a stand-alone, or a continued series story.
