If it is true that that this item will provide 100,000 gallons of clean drinking, 3 to 4 liters per day, then I estimate quite a few years, of water. Hard to beat that especially since "lifestraw" only provides approx. 600 gallons before needing to replace the filter. The tools included are practical and sturdy enough. Easy to clean and the package is light and compact. Have not much use for a blanket in the jungle but, you never know, with some creativity, I could make good use of it! Overall quite pleased with this purchase and feel confident that it will serve my needs well. Good job, Sawyer.

This is my second one of these sawyer mini filters, bought this one for my son to use camping after I got to test mine out. I really couldn't be happier with it. So many people out there are flocking to the lifestraw, and it's all because of their advertising. Look at the numbers, the sawyer is smaller, same weight, same price, far more versatile, filters 0.1 microns vs 0.2 in the lifestraw, and will handle up to 100,000 gallons vs 264 gallons in the lifestraw since the sawyer comes with a backflush syringe. It works as advertised, and makes the water taste like nothing. My first trip out I boiled my water for drinking, and man is that a pain! My dad has an old pump style filter I was going to borrow next, but when I found out how little they flow per the effort put in, I figured I could handle a lot of boiling. The sawyer was a lifesaver, and some day literally could be, so for the price you can't have enough of these things around!Read full review

I am so glad I got this handy little water filter. I am now prepared to face what ever mother nature may through at me whenever I am in the woods, or even at home in case of any disaster! Clean, drinkable water is a necessity. Do not be with out one of these life saving devices, ever.

Pros: Lightweight enough for long distance hiking; sturdy; filter lasts a long time. Cons: Washer will inadvertently fallout, so you need to recheck EVERY time you use it. If you lose the washer then you will not be able to use this device. I keep some regular lawn hose washers in my pack in case I lose my original washer (which I have twice and found somebody else's washer once) As of this posting I have not been able to find a source for the actual washer replacement; you need to backwash this device when the water flow slows down to unclog the filter (a frequent occurrence on the trail)
