This book addresses all the preservation/storage questions I had regarding the many types of family treasures I hope to pass on to future generations -- and even some questions I'd not thought to ask. The book was written by a highly-qualified expert, but he used layman's terms so his directions are easily understood. The author included sources, too, for common and uncommon things needed for preservation (for example, many things used for preserving some items are readily available at craft stores, while others may need to be ordered from, or the item handled by, professional archivists or preservationists.) Want to keep great-grandma's lace hankies so they won't get moth-eaten? Your child's macaroni art? The exquisite crystal vase that was imported from Europe? The doohickey you inherited from a great-uncle that is interesting to look at, even though you have no idea what it was used for originally? Since the book has a chapter covering just about any material you can imagine (wood, paper, photographs, plastics, and more), it is likely this book can direct you on the proper preservation techniques. I found it easy to read -- first, just in sections as I browsed, and later, in more depth as I researched how to deal with a specific item/type. It is a book I will reference often, and have already recommended to many friends and family members as a great resource.Read full review
