Let me begin by saying that I am not an Adam Sandler basher. I actually think he is quite funny. However, depending on which sketch you watch from this DVD compilation, you might not come away with that same impression. If you are interested in buying this "Best of" set, first ask yourself if you are a fan of Sandler's brand of comedy or not. If you hesitate even a little, you might want to steer clear, as a number of the sketches included will test your resolve. Too many of the sketches included are retreads from the Best of Chris Farley or extended skits from ones that were trimmed in Best of Chris Farley (and you quickly discover why they were trimmed in that far-superior set). Next, ask yourself how much you want to own some of Sandler's more-memorable sketches, like Canteen Boy, Opera Man, etc. If it is no big loss to you, then stay away. I bought this set because I wanted to see several of Sandler's sketches again and add them to my collection, but so much of what is included is fluff that only extends the running length of the DVD and serves no other discernable purpose. Sure, Canteen Boy was funny, and if you like Opera Man, you will get plenty of that. But they only included one Halloween Ideas sketch (and not the pickle arm one I was hoping for, either). It is puzzling why some sketches made the cut and others did not, although using celebrity sketches to help push the product might have played a part. Overall, you will get the sketches I listed above, Cajun Man, Gap Girl, the Italian Guys who Grope Kirstie Alley, and much more. However, this set does not live up to the promise it had, and that is a real shame.Read full review
In the '90s it was time to redefine what it meant to be a "Saturday Night Live" star, and Adam Sandler did just that. You'll see Opera Man, Cajun Man, Canteen Boy, the Gap Girl, and many other completely original inventions that were always different and always funny. Also includes guests Alec Baldwin, Courteney Cox, Shannen Doherty, Kirstie Alley, Michael Keaton and SNL regulars Chris Farley, David Spade and Rob Schneider.
Best of Adam Sandler on SNL is hilarious. A good quality DVD and right price. Thanks.
