It is very simple with this device. It produces quality sound output from MP3 files and others. I prefer FLAC files. You can also update this device to use ROCKbox firmware. This will provide you more features, most notably a better equalizer to get a bit better sound quality. The interface for the ROCKbox firmware is not as clean and intuitive as the original from Sanza. The only thing I did not like was the sound quality because I am a picky audiophile. If you have a good kenwood or sony CD player portable from the 90's like the DPC-551, 81, or Sony D-777 and others you know what true reference quality sound is. The sanza is good, great for it's package. But it is not equivalent to high quality CD players from the 90's which are made in Japan. A great way around this is to use a Headphone amplifier or cMOY. This is a great device, with the SD-CARD it helps out great for more storage memory. Ok, that is it. Thank you.Read full review
After moving up to the Sansa Fuze Plus with the death of my old Fuze I thought I was getting a better product. Well after 3 days of use I went screaming back to eBay to find this original product. The interface is SO MUCH EASIER than the "improved" model. The touch screen on the plus model is too sensitive and you can't use it without looking at the unit. This makes advancing to the next song, pausing, restarting, or repeating songs unsafe when you're driving. Also, I don't worry about accidentally changing songs/artist when I reach for the unit or put it in my pocket. This is one of the best of the Sansa offerings.
I have been using the Sansa Fuze first generation for years and love it. Its simple design, good sound and portability make it ideal for use at the gym, while walking or anyplace you need portable music and radio. "Old school" in the best possible way.

Great player for audio books and they never should have messed w it and made Fuze+ which rots. There is only one iPod but many poor imitators, this being one of them. The sad thing is that the original Fuze had the iPod beat for audiophiles. I wud have told them that for free instead of paying some Nerd to ruin a good thing. If you don't believe it, look how many +'s r for sale and how many bids there are for used originals.
Absolutely amazing product. Love the color, functionality and overall design.
