I bought this phone because I needed an actual phone (NEVER try to make an iPod touch work as an iPhone... It won't) and I wanted an Android. It's one of the earlier models, but it runs Stock Jelly Bean 4.1.1 BEAUTIFULLY. One of the issues I have with the phone (and it COULD be just this particular phone... Not the entire Google Nexus S line) is that the function keys sometimes will not respond. Another issue is the battery charging. This particular phone line only charges to 94%-97%, depending on how much you want to play with it. If you charge it overnight, you will only be at 94% in the morning. If you charge it through computer USB technology, you can get it to 97% by unplugging and replugging the USB wire. There is NO SD card capabilities on this phone, so the 16 GB is all the storage you will have... and only 1 GB of that is internal. So, you will need to watch your app sizes and move what you can to USB storage. Overall though, it's a great starter phone for those who are new to the Android OS platform.Read full review
I've bought first one for my daughter and waited almost a year to buy another one for me (to get it cheaper, you know). It's also a Google connected product with all the features of Google. So if you're not Google fan this product isn't for you. As turned on and tuned a bit for my needs it downloaded system update once I connected it to wifi at home. So now I have ICS. It takes time to get used to it as, I think, last version of Android OS 2.3 or so was a bit convenient for me. Although the built in SD storage limited to 16Gb, it's enough to do everything you need. It's telephone at the end, no? Nexus S is a little bit smaller then newer Samsung Galaxy II and doesn't have SD card expansion slot. It has nice lines and shape. Very nice product.
I purchased this phone for I wanted to take advantage of all of the features, widgets, and applications of Android, specifically Gingerbread 2.3.4. Likes: I like all the apps you can download from the Android Market, the screen, how sensitive to the touch it is, how customizable it is, the live wallpapers, and how fast the phone is. Dislikes: I've read this keeps happening to many other people: The keyboard application crashes constantly, even when using different keyboard apps. It's really frustrating and annoying, to the point that I am about to sell this phone and purchase a Galaxy S2. I read this issue is related to the OS itself (Froyo doesn't have this prob) and due to a memory fault. I have to kill the process manually every single day and some times even reboot it. This alone messed up my Nexus S experience. Another downer is the camera shutter button. Since it's on the screen rather than on one of the sides of the phone, I tend to touch the wrong button or exit out of the camera app. I didn't find a way to zoom in or out either... 3rd, some applications seem to open up by themselves and run on the background, draining your batter life very quickly. Google Maps and Skype are 2 apps that love doing that. I have to keep checking all apps and kill them every time, which has better the battery life but is really annoying. This brings me to the final topic: Battery life. As with this generation of smartphones, get used to daily charges, and even more often so if you browse the web a lot. I had to get one of those chargers for the car and carry the micro-USB to USB cable so I don't get incommunicated.Read full review
incredible features, totally customizable, no need to jailbrake, lot of free downloadable content, gingerbread OS has a great stability and this phone is way to far from the Iphone4 if you are one of those who likes to squish and make every chip of your phone worth what you paid for battery life is not that good, the screen absorbs it all but im totally sure that this is a common problem for all smartphones. but besides that, its really worth it!.
In the next line of Galaxy Nexus products, this one is a great one. It operates on the current Android platform and can easily be modified, etc. It is slow at times but generally can accept anything you throw at it. I rooted it from day one with CG and have no problems with it other than one common manufacturing defect in which the search button would like to press itself from time to time. No big deal. I actually believe I fixed it by pressing the button down hard. Compared to my Nexus One, this is 100x better. Compared to other products, it is very similar. It is sleek, can take a drop on its back, and overall looks great!
