This is a direct iPod competitor and, from my point of view, completly blow it off. For almost the same price (I paid mine 215CA$ vs iPod 200CA$) I get all the sweet things, but over the iPod here are the extra features: GPS (a real one) // Flash for photos // 5" screen. Way better for watching videos or even movies // Excellent battery life // Vibrating // FM Radio // Expension slot SD card up to 32GB (Take that Apple!) ---- Where it falls off: WiFi signals are more difficult to grab than on the iPod. // Lots of reflections if you go on a sunny day. Bearly usuable ---- I personnaly setup my VoIP account on this device, and it works fine. So whenever I have WiFi connection, it can be used like a normal phone without the fees. Even when you're out of WiFi, you still have acces to GPS, Radio, MP3s. That's all very cool together!Read full review
I just received this today so I'll see how well it lasts over time. But from the feel of this it seems solid enough to last a few years or more. I'll start with the pros. Pros. Good battery life, mine came dead and took a long time to charge but holds a charge better then most 7' tablets for around 100$ that I've bought. Good CPU, I have no problem multi-tasking No freezing. Again better then most 7' tablets for this price. I've bought quite a few 7' tabs for 100 or less and they all had some kind of problem. Not this device, it works perfect. FM Radio, is a must while working or out the house. good reception too. Google play, samsung app store. and it allows other app stores like Amazon to be installed. Wifi, GPS, Bluetooth, 3mp rear camera with flash, All great features to have. Music sounds clear, videos play smooth. Internet browsing is crisp and clear to read. What else could I say, its an amazing device. Like a well built samsung tablet only small enough to carry in your pocket. Plenty of space to keep all your files and large enough screen to enjoy web browsing and watching videos. This device is way better then any tablet you will find for around 100$. I bought this because I was fustrated with spending money on tabs that where to big to carry around and also had some kind of problems that only got worse. I am very happy I found this and thanks to samsung I can finally stop wasting time looking for a good tablet. The only CON is it only has 500mb of Ram. But I been using it for awhile and it hasnt slowed down or had any problems in fact I have several apps running and its still very fast. Right now its only using 185mb so thats really good. Android Gingerbread was designed to run on low RAM devices so don't let that deter you, I didn't and it runs nice and fast. I hope this helps some people. I really like mine.Read full review
The first thing that you will notice when you pick this MP3 up is that it is not like any other MP3 or iPod device you have ever held. This thing is massive. With a five inch screen, I put it under the "Mini-Tablet" category. Bigger than any other MP3, ipod, or phone, the Samsung Galaxy Player is one of the best multimedia device that one could have. The Samsung Galaxy Player has a magnificent large screen to view the internet, play games, or run apps. However, even with the five inch screen, the player is still very mobile and able to fit into my pant pocket easily. It is a little bulky, but is fine after you get used to it. I love just pulling it out to do just about anything that a full size tablet can do, so if you like the feel of having a tablet but want something more easy to carry around, this is the perfect device. Although looking very similar to that of a smartphone, I would still consider it to be a tablet because of its ability to use adobe flash player (able to load HTML pages as if you were on a computer), and having a large memory and CPU processor than that of a phone, making it faster and ability to multitask smoothly. One of the coolest and unique feature that I enjoy is the notification ribbon at the top of the player at all times (except during games and apps). It not only shows the Wi-fi, battery, and time, it also displays notifications such as new emails, Facebook messages or notifications, game updates, basically anything new on the device. You just pull down the ribbon to view the update, tap it, and it takes you to the email or notification that you want. It also is like a mini control center, allowing the user to change settings like wireless controls or vibration/silencer. Much like a computer, the Samsung Player has a Files folder, showing all the programs and apps. This player can also use/view Microsoft office suite (to make documents, the full app must be bought). It can view Adobe documents, and download files and pictures from the internet or email. So what makes this player stand out the most from other players or Apple products? Simply, here is the list: - HD large touch screen - Notification ribbon - Equalizer, letting you adjust the sound of your music - High mega pixel main camera, as well as a front viewing camera - Adobe flash player ability - Two high quality and loud speakers (they actually sound pretty good!) - View and edit Microsoft documents, including Excel, Word, and Powerpoint - Much like a PC, with Task Manager, Program Files, and more. - FREE GPS and Navigation (tells you your location on a map WITHOUT WIFI!!!) - Access to the Android Market All in all, this is the best type of media player in my opinion, outgunning the iTouch or any other MP3 player. The Galaxy runs smooth and pretty fast for an MP3. I get comments by anyone around me when I pull it out, and are truly amazed at the screen size, quality, and ability to do anything to that of a tablet. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask.Read full review
I love this player! This is my second one my first one I had over three years and it was still working great till my granddaughter felt it needed a bath. This new one has not disappointed I love this player holds lots of music and is so easy to load and use. It also takes good pictures and has a pretty decent external speaker. Hooks u to Bluetooth very easily. Would recommend to anyone.

I have to say that I really only bought the Player as a PDA, because PDAs have gone out of fashion now, and my old one (HP iPAQ) died. So my comments only relate to the use of the Player as a PDA. In this regard it's a dud. The synchronisation for Schedule (Calendar) & Contacts with Outlook is really problematic: unbelievably slow and constantly not connecting with the device (using Samsung software called Kies). I have had to re-download the software about 20 times so far (no exaggeration)including 5 times this morning. I have a great deal of data on my Outlook Calendar but whereas the iPAQ would synchronise in about 5 minutes, for some reason this device takes many hours. I don't know why. It seems like it is re-syncing every piece of data on the schedule/calendar whereas the iPAQ had the capacity to identify any changes that had occurred since the last synch, and just synch those. I don't really use many of its other features so can't comment on them, but as a PDA, I've wasted my money.Read full review
