The fault was mine, in NOT asking if the device came with an owners manual. I have, also, learned that the "disc drawer" works, best, when a dvd is left IN the drawer, when not in use. When tray is empty, must push "Open" function up to seven times. When tray contains a disc, works fine. I will conclude by saying "I got what I paid for." If I wanted better, I should have been prepared to pay MORE. For the price, a GOOD buy.

The communication between tv and BluRay player makes it very easy to use. When switching the TV input to HDMI, the BluRay player turns on automatically. Then controlling it with the TV remote eliminates another remote from my coffee table. Picture quality is great and the HIGH DEFINITION netflix streamming is just like playing a blueray disc. Pandora is another great feature with great music selection. Cons: Youtube search sucks, because typing in the search box may take a very long time. There are some features that are missing from youtube... like while viewing a video, you can't select "RELATED VIDEOS"... you have to let it finish all the way to see some (vely limitied list) related videos. My phone's youtube feature is easier to use and with more feautres... and it's just a phone. Switching from netflix to Pandora, has a very big volume difference (make sure you keep your finger on the volume button). Also for netflix, they should implement a search feature (eliminating the need of a computer to add movies to the queue). Overall, it's a great player, and I hope that one of the future upgrades, the youtube software will be changed (more user friendly)...Read full review
well i got my samsung bdp 1600 this week its my first blu ray and overall i think it is a pretty good machine. it does take a little time to load blu ray disks and to start up. from startup until you can watch the movie maybe takes 5 minutes. if your patient like me thats not that big of a deal. i have read other reviews about the firmware making your unit into a brick or not be able to read the disks. i updated mine with no problem. the only weird thing was when i played normal dvd's it didnt fill my full screen (it did before the update), but there was an easy solution for that. it was go into the video settings and set the video for 16:9 wide. for the price and special features such as netflix and youtube you cant beat it.
