I have played a lot of different hats! from aax xcellerator, new beats, paragons, zildjian fast hats, vintage 70s zildjian hats, sabian aa, and others.... I just went from new beats, which I think sound pretty clanky when playin open and Im amazed how loud these hats are NOT! open sounds great and closed is very tight and almost like fast hats, clean shimmering and nice but just not loud at all. the new beats are almost 2x louder when closed. if your looking to use these in a live situation use a mic or they wont be heard unless u play them open.
I needed a second pair of hats. I almost bought another pair of Zildjian New Beats, but since I already had a pair (the gold standard of hats, IMO), I thought I would try something a little different. These hats are pretty close in design (machine hammered, medium top / heavy bottom), but they react differently; they play a little easier than the New Beats as they somehow feel a little softer and lighter (this particular pair does, anyway). They sound great with pronounced sizzle and a quick bark (great combo of attributes). Nice loud foot chick, too. Not as much high-end presence as New Beats, but that is not necessarily a bad thing.
Personally I would like the AA or HHX series but these are fantastic hats at a killer price point

These are perhaps some of the greatest Hi hats I have ever bought. If you're looking for a clean crisp sound while having a lot of high and mid tones while the hats are open, I would greatly recommend these. They are also very loud and project very well in a live setting. I'm CaelebY and I play modern bright :)
great sounding hats !!
