Although not as good as the main entries of the Puyo Puyo series, Nazo Puyo is still fun as it's a great way to brush-up on your Puyo Puyo skills. Whereas Super Puyo Puyo (also available on Super Famicom) has you battle it out puzzle-style against a series of competitors, Nazo Puyo offers you specific puzzle challenges, like "clear 8 puyos simultaneously" or "do a 4 or greater chain", in order to advance. Arle (the player's character) must complete these challenges in order to earn ingredients to make her world-famous curry dishes, and demonstrate her superior culinary skills to her eternal rival, Rulue. The graphics and sounds are bright and cheery, and the music is decent enough - although I would have liked at least one cut of traditional, recognizable Puyo Puyo music to be included. Keep in mind that a basic understanding of Japanese is necessary, not so much for the story, but rather because every match has a specific rule displayed on-screen, and without being able to understand it, your goose is cooked like Rulue's questionable curry dishes.Read full review
