  • You'll feel like you're back in 1979

This film makes me feel VERY OLD! The reviewers who praise it as something totally new and different must have never seen CLOSE ENCOUNTERS OF THE THIRD KIND, IT, STAND BY ME, and other classics of the mid-1970s to mid-1980s. But the film it most closely resembles is ET. Scary government agents try to capture and experiment on an alien, while a group of kindhearted kids try to help the creature find his way home. About the only difference is that this E.T. isn't small and adorable, it's big and creepy-looking. The kids in SUPER 8 have somewhat troubled home lives, and there is a train explosion that would have probably been deemed too horrific for the ET-era. Otherwise, SUPER 8 looks and sounds exactly like a film that was made in 1979, the year in which the action is set. ...

  • Poorly edited and rather unoriginal movie

I bought this dvd based on positive reviews here on ebay. But to tell you the truth, I found this movie boring, predictable, with stereotypical relationships. It could easily have been edited down by 25 minutes or more. You don't get to see a clear view of the alien until the +/- 70 minute mark, which is never a good sign. That ploy has been used to create artificial suspense so many times, you have to wonder if it's in some alien movie playbook. At the finale of the movie, the alien has the power, or technology, to miraculously magnetize assorted metal objects together to make a functioning spacecraft. Yet at no other time in the movie had it displayed this ability. It's just shown as a hideous, grunting creature out of it's element with incredible strength ...

  • Awesome!

This movie may seem like it's just going to be another one of those "kids save the world" movies. But you really should consider this one in your arsenal of home DVDs. I can't even tell you how many times I have watched this already. For one these kids are talented. So yeah, the storyline may be predictable, but it has some interesting twists and the acting that these children do is amazing to watch. It is engaging, entertaining and fun. It was well done and was overlooked by Steven Spielberg himself! If that doesn't mean something, well........Just buy it, you won't be sorry, for the kid in you.

  • Very good entertainment!

Great movie for people trying to watch something different than there used to. I personally don't watch movies like this as a rule, but after seeing it I changed my mind. The effects are really great and it's amazing to to see such talent in such young actors and actresses. The kids really make the movie, their acting is truly inspiring. The storyline is never boring and for me at least it was extremely suspenseful( never a dull moment).
