I rented "Sugar" a few days ago. About halfway through the film, I decided to buy it. The film chronicals the journey of fictional Dominican ballplayer, Miguel "Sugar" Santos, from his start in the DR to the ranks of American minor leaguer. With baseball as a background, "Sugar" explores the fish-out-of-water feelings experienced by many foreign baseball propects as they arrive as strangers in the U.S. I found the film to be comical, heartwarming and at times bitter-sweet; all part of what I felt to be a realistic portrayal of the young man's experiences. Overall, I enjoyed the film and would recommend it to any fan of the game looking for an uncommon baseball movie.
Feels like a documentary. Interesting story presented in a believable manner. Knew my family would love it so had to buy it.
