I could have gone with the cheap $20.00 dehydrator but I wanted something more versatile and heavy duty. So far I've used this 4 times to make beef jerky for myself, and chicken and sweet potato strips for the dogs and everything has come out great. Like any new product there is a learning curve, but this one is very short. Being able to adjust the drying temperature is huge. Now I can safely dehydrate almost anything. With 10 trays I can really load it up with several pounds of whatever. The timer is a major plus, however it does not signal when done. Having the detachable heating unit allows me to clean the entire box should it ever need it. At 20"Dx16"Wx15"H, it is not a small unit and is impractical for most kitchen counters. I use a card table to set it up for use - a minor inconvenience considering the quality of the product. The only problem I've had (and it is very minor) is that the rails for the trays come off the sides of the box to easily. This has happened each time I used it and I'm looking at ways to more permanently attach the rails. Based on my experiences so far, I would recommend this, or any other STX dehydrator, to anyone looking for a high quality dehydrator.Read full review

Although I love that it is all stainless, I am disappointed that the racks are made with such large holes. Liners will have to be used with much of what I will dehydrate.

I make over hundred pounds meat a month for my jerky business. I have been using the Excalibur which is a very good machine, however this blows it away. First is that it goes to 165 degrees so it meets food safety requirements. Which also quickens the drying time somewhat. It also holds more product, the trays are a little larger and has one extra tray. Now one of the biggest difference for me is the clean up. With the Excalibur the tray are two parts, the tray itself, which is only to support the mesh screen which the holes are tiny. This might be great for drying herbs but for jerky its a nightmare. I marinade would be baked into those little holes and I would need to 1st soak the screens and trays then scrub them by hand before putting them in the dishwasher. The STX Dehyrdra I just put the trays in the dishwasher and that's it. Saves me at least a hour each time I make a batch. Also with the Excalibur cleaning the inside is not a easy task, with the STX it is a breeze!! Customer service is also wonderful, Highly recommend both this product and the company. BTW I own their meat grinder and it is also awesome! Homemade MyWayRead full review

I just made doggie treats with this dehydrator. Sliced boneless, skinless chicken breasts; soaked overnight in chicken broth and dried for 8-9 hours in the unit. They turned out perfect and my lab and weimaraner just went crazy over these treats. The unit is easy to clean and very efficient. Certainly better than my old plastic dehydrator that did not have the 1200 watt power to get the job done. I would recommend this unit to anyone.

I searched a long time before I purchased this dehydrator. I’ve used it a long time now. It works very well. Easy to clean and use. One small light not working but surly not worth returning for. Easy to use. Works very well even fully loaded. Favorite part is it is all stainless steel.
