I needed a mid size saw to help with the tree work I'm doing. I asked a lot of questions, did a bunch of research, read a bunch of reviews, and compared specs of other saws in the same size range. The ms260pro had everything I was looking for, excellent reputation, great quality, great durability, light weight, powerful, BUT, the price was too high brand new. My budget wouldn't allow me to buy a new saw so I watched ebay for a few months until I found one in very good condition for a good price. I used the saw to limb and cut to stove length whatever wood the bar length(18")could handle on a red oak take down I did today. The saw performed above and beyond what I expected, I'm very happy, and impressed with this saw. The saw has great balance, great power, and light weight,(no problem cutting with it for a full day). I should mention I put on a modified muffler and swapped out the original carburetor. I put in a Walbro 194 with the H and L adjustment to be able to tune the saw to run right with the new muffler, the original carb only had the L adjustment. I would recommend this saw to everyone looking for a mid size saw. It will do the work and not leave you worn out at the end of the day. I am looking forward to how the saw is going to hold up over the next several years...work safe.Read full review
Model Kw cc bore stroke hp operating rpm 026 pro 2.96 48.7 44mm 32mm 3.2 14,000 This saw is ideal for lightweight work like limbing and trimming This saw is perfectly suited for light duty commercial or homeowner small projects. Stihl has put out this saw for several years and continues to make this saw under the ms 260 pro name with improved fuel economy and lower emissions. This saw has a place in most loggers arsenal. I highly recommend this saw to anyone looking for a mid-powered saw that has the capability to complete the toughest jobs.
The Stihl MS260 is a small mid-range professional saw. Within a few days of receiving the saw it was used on several disaster relief jobs to help remove trees on houses and across driveways in East Tennessee. The MS260 is similar to the older 026 and does not have the compression release starting and adjustable oiler features of the MS260Pro. The newer MS261 has a more eco-friendly carb but weighs a little more. However the MS260 starts reliably and the bar is oiled adequately. It does seem to like genuine Stihl bar oil. When used with non-Stihl bar oil the roller tip eventually became locked. Penetrating oil freed the bearing tip and subsequent use with Stihl oil has resulted in no other problems. For the type work the disaster relief teams do, the only saws that hold up are Stihl and Husqvarna. The other “big box store” saws simply lose power and quit after a few trips.Read full review
Hi, I am a Wisconsin Farmer along the Wis, Minnesota border...no flat land here, all ridges and valleys...100 % Oak, black , red & white...few cherry here and there..Have used my stihl 026 pro for about 8 years, I am anal about cleaning it after useage, and going through the saw and checking for wear items, hard to find at times due to the fact it was built right and engineering has made it a lighter and even more dependable then before..as everyone, I have had my saw in different predicaments and it has never let me down..proper maintenance is it...I will be buying another today of the same...there are good saws out there, but do be careful ...buy American ...if you can't stand behind our flag, do feel free to stand in front of it.. thank you Stihl...Dale Powers , Lookout, Buffalo County , Wisconsin...USMC..Family...Read full review

The MS260 I bought was rebuilt from parts from more than one saw. It was one of the early versions with the "MS" designation. It functions fine and has plenty of power for its size. The only thing I would recommend is to be sure which version you get. The early models did not have a decompression valve, but someone put a cowl on this saw that was for the decompression valve, so from the side it looked like the PRO version, but upon closer inspection it lacked the decompression feature. Still a very good saw, though. Just be sure to ask questions and make sure you get pictures from every angle.
