Plastor does a great job of laying out the ongoing struggle of MAC SOG to gain needed intellegence information on the activities of the NVA in both Vietnams, Laos and Cambodia to support the US Forces war efforts. Written from a compelling first hand perspective in a compelling and informative manner, yet very readable. Having done a tour in one of the areas he writes about I felt taken back in the fray as I recognized the geograpy and names of the places and even some of the people involved. But it's also written in a manner that would be quite understandable even if you hadn't been there. Great read!

I had the privilege to serve with many of the men whose actions and conduct were featured in this book. To describe their actions as being astoundingly heroic does them a dis-service. The characters are so strongly described so as to be nearly mythical, human but much more. Where does this country find men like Robert Howard, the most highly decorated serviceman of any US War, lost in the corrupt noise of the Anti-War movement by a gutless Government and worse Media? The stories in this book could be the basis for a hundred movies, and viewers of such movies would be hard-pressed to imagine stories that are repeated over and over about legends like Sergeant Major Billy Waugh, Mad Dog Shriver, CCC, CCN and much more. How about a 60 man unit that received no fewer than 5 Medals of Honor, and certainly earned a hundred more with their peers? The modern SOG traces its roots all the way back to the First Special Service Force of World War II. I would recommend it to every American School and College. It might help Americans to better understand where their freedoms come from, and at what price. These were MEN who gave everything to their duty. Their bonds transcended all forms of conventional loyalty, but always beginning with their teammates. Their oaths were their lives.Read full review
This book is highly recommended. I grew up with one of the characters named in the book..."James (Gavin) Storter. He is as tough as they come. His exploits are mind bending. This is the second book I have bought because I will get him to autograph this one. The first book is rather tattered from so much handling. The book gives you a gut wrenching insite, not only to the missions carried out, but to the nature of the men involved. Read it and thank God for their efforts when their life was on the line.
Never heard of sog until video games and this book covers the entire history of these awesome fearless soldiers. Stuff I never learned about the war in school I learned reading this awesome book.

This book truely shows the sacrifices and dedication of our military warriors!!Unlike the made up books the heroes give their lives in this book. Viet Nam may have been a politically run war(badly run) but the unselfish manner in which these men of valor execute their orders go far and above the norm for soldiers operating in foreign lands on behalf of their country. These men have nothing to be ashamed of and can take great pride in their accomplishments!! Bravo to them!!!
