Just finished my 3rd go round with this cd. I had about 100 other cds that I wanted to listen to first, but felt compelled to play this one, again! To the uninitiated, Eric Bibb is a modern blues singer in the mode of Keb Mo; Maria Mulduar has a Bonnie Raitt voice and Rory Block (woman) has the deep south blues that span from Louisiana to Texas. It’s hot! “Sisters & Brothers” has loads of inner soul, spirituality, and honky tonk blues that made the soundtrack: O God Where Are Thou famous. The cover of Bob Dylan’s “You Gotta Serve Somebody” is particularly good. All three have dominate voices, but the album lets each one pour their own special brand of magic onto the cd. There are about 3 songs where they all three sing in unison, but largely this is a barn-studio recording that is both clean and stripped of the Hollywood that invaded Blues music today. Pick it up, it’s great car music as well. My guess is you’ll start to get curious about the music catalogs of all three contributors: Mulduar, Bibb, and Block.
