I am biased in my opinion of this movie. The only reason I bought this DVD was Chiaki Kuriyama. Like most Japanese films, it seemed a little disjointed at times but I did enjoy it overall. The cover may say it's a horror movie but it's in reality a love story with sinister/supernatural overtones. I'm used to horror movies woven around Christian or Catholic beliefs but this one was around Buddhist beliefs, of course. And just like the former is misrepresented by Hollywood, the Buddhist beliefs were misrepresented by the Japanese film makers so take it with a grain of salt. If you are a Chiaki fan, this this is a must have. If you are a Japanese film fan, the same applies.
Shikoku.. wow.. what i like about this movie is the thought of wondering how it was gonna end... pretty freaky.. but at the end, you get the feeling of sorrow.. the reason why i bought the movie was just the story itself.. i like these kind of movies!!
I like everything Ms. Kuriyama does. I was not aware this was her first film. It's a grabber if you can get thru the subtitles.
