I have asthma and a reactive airway, I can tell the minute I will all into the rooms where I have these running. The air is clean, no sprays, no smells, no dusty filters, just clean air. I have two and love them.

These air purifiers aren't going to make your home a "clean room", but I run two all the time and they both collect their share of airborne dust. I'm sure there are better units, but I tried an Oreck XL tabletop unit and decided to return it after using it a week or so! What I like most about this type of air purifier is the fact that once you've bought it, that's it - no expensive filters to keep on buying! I like these, but everyone has an opinion of their own.
If you know your science, how it works is a no-brainer. If not, take it from someone who does. Electrostatic cleaning is the most efficient way to clean the air. Ozone (O^3) reacts with volatile and aromatic compounds to eliminate odors too. Pop the plates in the dishwasher once a week and even the heaviest smokers will keep their units clean and working (dry thoroughly for before replacing the plates).
