One of the most powerful poets of our time, Sekou Sundiata influenced such artists as Ani DiFranco and Soul Coughing's M. Doughty. Now a literature teacher New School University in NYC, Sundiata grew up in Harlem and his roots in the Black Arts/Black Aesthetic Movement show through. His poems are socially conscious, but not preachy, and set to emotionally moving music with hints of African Beats, Caribbean Rhythm, and, of course, Jazz.
