Awesome DVD of a tour I actually saw in 1981. My only wish would be that it be longer and with all of the songs performed on the night it was recorded. Otherwise great video to go along with a memory.

Excellent picture quality that makes up for buying the VHS years ago, however the audio doesn't equal the vinyl album version... at least to my ears. The drums are not as clear and there's a lot of low end tone to the music. It's been worth the wait to "see" this in better visual quality, I just wish the audio was mixed better. The booklet is actually a mini version of the 'souvenir program' from their Moving Pictures Tour so that's pretty cool. Been listening to RUSH since '78 and just being honest. Thank you.

Geddy, Alex and Neil...Live. 'Nuff said. Okay, maybe not. I waited eagerly, nearly camped out at the mailbox...and when the "Exit Stege Left" DVD finally arrived, it was like Christmas: Open the puppy and play 'er already! As fast as modern technology and this fortysomething's fingers could move, I was at the beginning...w00t! Grab some corn and sit back, eh? Da Boyz never fail to entertain, and they're not limited to music. Maybe it's their way of keeping sane, but to watch them do gag gestures, go off on goofy tangents and just ad-lib humour the audience is refreshing in these days where most bands just seem to lack any stageside manner. Rush, however, is comfortable on stage and it shows, even in the older days of 25 years back, when the "Exit Stage Left" tour occurred. Wow, that long? My rocker's long hair is now long since replaced by a dull brown high-n-tight, but I still bang my head to these guys. Be it "Red Barchetta", "Limelight", or the spectacular ending medley "By-Tor & The Snow Dog / In The End / In The Mood / 2112 Grand Finale", you'll be inspired. If you're at all familiar with Rush, you know the score already: Instant adrenaline. That is, after all, why they're called "Rush"! They never disappoint, and if you don't already have this in your Rush collection, whatcha waitin' for??? Fer cryin' out loud, Hovis! Buy this DVD!Read full review
The picture quality is well up to '80's video tape specs. After all it was recorded in the '80's using '80's equipment. Now on to the real review: This video is truly a showcase of talent from Geddy Lee, Alex Leifson, and Neil Pert. As a musician myself, I was enamored by Rush in the early days. This DVD just takes me back to it. To watch Geddy Lee play bass, synths and sing all at the same time just amazes me. And to watch Alex shift from the 12 sting neck to the 6 string neck on a double neck guitar is a thing of beauty. Niel is the only percussionist that I ever saw running from one instrument to another still keeping perfect time. This DVD is well worth watching... over and over and over.
RUSH: Exit Stage Left (audio CD) is perhaps my favorite album of all time. I have owned it, over the years, in multiple formats and have listened to it dozens, if not hundreds of times. I only recently discovered that there was a DVD available and I immediately ordered it from a seller on E-bay. Yes, this footage is from the 80's so the picture quality isn't exactly hi-def or anything. But, it does preserve the quality of the band, as a whole. As a multiple-instrument musician myself, I am in awe of what this three-piece group was (and still are) able to accomplish. The one and only thing that I am slightly disappointed with is that this DVD is not taken directly from the audio CD, released circa 1981. I know the album word for word, note for note, front to back, and to watch it play out in video would've been a truly spectacular experience for me. The song list deviates a little from the album and there are at least three songs that I wish could have been added. But, I knew this when I bought it so, ho-hum....... Overall, this is a great addition to any RUSH fan's collection and I highly recommend it. To me, it was surely worth the eight dollar price tag!!Read full review
