The Rules of Attraction is one of my favorite movies, so I may be biased, but I will attempt to review the movie fairly! First off, the movie is not appropriate nor intended for everybody. There is an overwhelming amount of sex, drug use, profanity....you get the idea. However, this approach does a wonderful job of conveying the satirical and pessimistic view of college life. Many other reviewers complained about the introduction to the movie, but I feel that after the first five minutes the viewer already has a decently good idea of who the main characters are and what parts they will play in the movie. Roger Avary does an excellent job of taking a very complex story and making all of the pieces fit in the end. I will admit, though, that you will have questions after the first time you watch it. It took me several viewings to understand all the intricacies of the movie. One of the reasons this movie is important is because it touches on many taboos in American society. As a college student, I have experienced and witnessed many aspects of this movie. I will grant that parts are exaggerated, but lets not forget this movie is meant to be shocking and appalling. However, the extent of the partying, drug use, and other parts of the movie are accurate in some settings! (It's kind of scary to think about that after seeing the movie, though!) The bottom line is that if you like movies that have you thinking and questioning things days after you watch them, you will probably like this movie. If you like slapstick comedy or movies that don't require much thought, this is probably not the movie for you.Read full review

Still a great movie a decade after it was made. Apart from the interesting if at times unrealistic college-angst plot, there are gifted and very funny cameo performances by the legendary Faye Dunaway and the lesser-known (but equally talented!) Swoozie Kurtz. A must-see film that will make you laugh and at times cry.
