I am a Roy Orbison fan. I already had his DVD "A Black & White Night", this was a 2 CD set (DVD + CD) & I wanted the CD. This was a great Singer & a gentle soul. I have heard dozen's of Folk's in the Music industry say what a wonderful & gentle person Roy Orbison was. The performer's he played with almost goes on without end. I will list a FEW of the group's and people Roy Orbison toured with & was Friend's with. For example, Buddy Holly, The Everly Brother's, The Beatles, Carl Perkins, Johnny Cash, & The Beach Boys, were among a few in his early year's. Roy Orbison was close friend's with Elvis Presley who stated that "Roy Orbison is the greatest singer in the world". Roy had to deal with a lot of tradegy during his life. He lost his 1st Wife Claudette in a Motorcycle accident, and not to long after that while he was performing in England, His "dream" house burned to the ground killing two of his Children, & He had to endure Triple ByPass Heart Surgery . There was a pause in his singing, though, that did not last for long. In the later year's of Roys life I believe He made the best music He had ever written. He had such a voice that even when singing previous song's he had written, they have a way of drawing a person in, He was just that good. He remarried to Barbara Orbison, and I feel all of Roys fan's owe Her a real debt of gratitude for keeping his work going so all of us could, and can, enjoy the vast collection of music that He wrote and sang. The later part of Roy Orbison life, I feel, that was really when HE came into his own. The list of the people that Roy worked with is huge, and very impressive. To name a few Bruce Springsteen, George Harrison, Jeff Lynne, Tom Petty, Bob Dillon, k.d. Lang, Bonnie Raitt, U2 (Bono, wrote Mystery Girl), Elvis Costello, & this just touch's the surface. He was part of the "Traveling Wilburys" & his last album "Mystery Girl" released after his death, was his best selling ever. Sadly, Roy Orbison, passed away from a massive heart attack in Dec. of 1988. It was a great loss not only to the music world, but I am sure to the folk's around him. As many have said he had "A Voice from the Angel's". I wish we could of had Roy for a longer period of time on this earth. It would of been great to see him in person. Thankfully, his Wife, Barbara Orbison has made sure all of his Fan's were able to hear the body of His work and that wonderful style of singing that only Roy Orbison could do. To this day, if I need to relax or need a bit of a a pick-me-up, the solution is to play a Roy Orbison CD, it does not matter which one (they are all great), and that wonderful voice is so relaxing. In one of his last interview's, Roy was asked how He would like to be remembered. He replied that "He would just like to be remembered. Roy Orbison was such a talent, He will always be remembered. Thank You for taking the time to read this. W.S.SRead full review
Originally produced as a television special for Showtime, this fantastic live special features the now-deceased rocker Roy Orbison with several equally legendary rock performers. Friends and colleagues including Jackson Browne, Bruce Springsteen, Bonnie Raitt, Elvis Costello, and Tom Waits joined Orbison at Los Angeles's Coconut Grove in order to collaborate with and pay tribute to this irreplaceable rock and roll talent. Songs performed include many of the classic songs of romance that made him famous--from "Oh, Pretty Woman" to the tragic ballad "Crying." Shot in black and white, this performance looks as beautiful as it sounds, featuring at any one time a killer all-star band onstage, clearly loving every minute of playing with Roy, who of course outshines them all.
If you are a Roy Orbison fan, you will love this! This was produced about a year prior to his untimely death in 1988. Bruce Springsteen, Bonnie Raitt, K.D. Lang and others contributed as "back up" musicians to this recording. All of Roy's greatest hits were played and it sounded great! I should say that you may have to play around with the multiple choice sound settings to dial in to your stereo or surround sound system. I have a Bose system and had point and click on the DVD recordings option list to find the right setup to avoid an echo effect. Once I did, it provided great surround sound!!
One of the best concerts ever... professionally recorded, quality musicians; many of the top musicians of our day and forever from Roy Orbison to Bruce Springsteen and the list goes on! This is a MUST HAVE for any concert lover. Just to get an idea of the entertainment value, YouTube Roy Orbison and Friends playing Pretty Woman and you will want this DVD concert (& CD goes along with it) remastered to play on your grand home stereo theater system!

Saw this show on PBS tv and my wife and I fell in love with it immediately. An absolutely fantastic performance, possibly his best. Without a doubt the definitive Roy Orbison ! ! ! Also, the filming of it in black and white in the old Coconut Grove nightclub really sets it off with a sense of being there in the proper era. Additionally, the band is loaded with stars and it is a true treat to identify all the celebrities from the past who were present at this show in the audience. I would highly recommend this DVD to anyone who wanted to see what Roy was all about in a setting that truely compliments his style and talent ! ! !
