I currently own somewhere around 15 different recording devices ranging from the tiny cassette size Boss Micro-BR & BR80 to the Roland VS2400CD. The thing I like about the Roland is the interface is familiar if you've used any of the other Roland VS machines, but the external VGA monitor makes it much easier on the eyes. You can use the LCD and the external monitor simultanesously or separately. The mouse is handy for panning and selecting functions without reaching around on the console. And you have lots of tracks to work with, complete with automated faders for mixing. The audio quality is great, I really like the Roland Preamps and can definitely hear the difference between them and the ones used on the Zoom recorders. Of course you get a boatload of Roland COSM effects including the Space Echo, which is nice. I like the reverbs. I prefer a physical interface for tracking, with a little effort the internal drive can be converted to an external sata drive, making it easy to dump the contents to your computer for conversion and editing with Reaper or whatever DAW you like to use. Its built like a tank with a metal chassis and if you take reasonablly good care of it, it will last a long time. I prefer hardware recorders to software, though I have several USB interfaces and have recorded directly to computer with good audio results, its just the computer has too many distractions, takes too long to boot into a recording session and is a general pain if its connected to the internet (software constantly reminding you about updates, viruses, firewalls etc) a hardware recorder is ready when you are and just sits there waiting for you, instead of the other way around. Love this machine, it has it all from software to hardware. Add the vs8f-3 effects card and you can add popular plugins. It's just like pro tools to me. But the motorized faders is killa and the RSS panning WOW! If you can't get it done on the vs 2400cd, then you're the problem.

Just purchased the VS-2400 for a fraction of the MSRP and love everything about it. I've systematically upgraded from the BR-900CD to the BR-1200CD to the ZOOM R16 and now to this. So far so good. It has the large display along with a mouse and keyboard so I can have the best of both worlds the DAW and the SIAB. Let me just say that I have been working on it for the last 12 hours and although there's a bit of a learning curve, I can tell that this is a great investment which will pay for itself quickly.
Thanks! Love it. Use it almost daily. Sorry it took me so long for the review.
