I already had this same model electronic keyboard (piano/synthesizer). I purchased this one so I could have one which I keep in my car and the other one all set up in my apartment). I mostly use the piano (or EP Bell setting) for the middle-to-upper notes and bass guitar (called "So Good"), for the lower register notes, for most of the music I play. This Roland keyboard has great features and hundreds of both instrumental and non-instrumental settings/sounds and it is really fun to play, as well.

I haven't played a synth since 1989, and boy has technology changed! I think this is a great product for reintroducing me to playing. It has tons of options and sounds. The manual is not helpful, but there are tons of easy tutorial videos on You Tube. There is so much to learn and I will be happily occupied for quite some time.

Expandability gives it everything the Roland Flagship Boards have, plus the ability to loop and record. Any of the 5080 sound module patches can be loaded to it via PC. Touch adjustment was a nice feature, makes it much more playable with synth and organ patches. This is everything you need for live performance.

I had the option between a Korg, the Yamaha Mod X, and the Juno DS 88. This one had most of the same features as the more expensive counterparts. I like how I'm able to loop on the keyboard and play along with built-in drum tracks. If you need a particular sound, you can plug in a USB with new sound patches. It's a little hard to navigate it at first. I honestly still refer to YouTube and the manual after having mine for a year. The keys are semi weighted, slightly lighter than an upright piano. They feel overall pretty good. The keyboard is pretty heavy. I recommend getting a roller bag if you plan on using it for gigs. Other than that, it's a great stationary work station. It's not the greatest keyboard, but it's definitely the best bang for your buck.

The sound the DS-88 produces is spectacular and the keyboard' feel is very close to that of a real piano. That said, the owner's manual is not very user friendly and leaves a lot to be desired. To get the most out of this keyboard, you will definitely need to watch a lot of videos and explore its possibilities all on your own. Roland could have done a much better job explaining all that this keyboard can do in the owner's manual.
