I'm well into my second kit. The first was an 80% aluminum frame. The second was a Rock Island steel frame. A few parts needed fitting in the second kit that were spot on in the first: extractor pin, ejector, grip safety and firing pin block. Obviously, Rock Island is producing more that one variant of the parts. Get yourself some good needle files for the detail work. For the grip safety-- there are three or more types out there. If your frame and grip safety are different styles, consider buying another beavertail, or all three. You'll be needing the others eventually. Don't panic if something isn't working. That's especially true if you're not already a 1911 shooter/fan. There's lots of great troubleshooting info out there.

When receiving the 1911 parts kit I have verified all the parts are there and in good condition. Next step is to put the parts on the frame for fit and finish.

With a bit of stoning and polishing parts ,this kit fits and functions flawlessly. If you want to build your own 1911 for not much money its the way to go. I love the one I built. For sure just put on nice grips and it looks great

Polished trigger, hammer and sear adjusted main spring to engage grip safety properly. Had to fit firing pin stop, as well as right thumb safety to pin groove on sear pin. Did not use standard plunger tube, instead ordered EGW plunger tube that uses 4-440 screws. Drilling required on frame, but never need to worry about proper staking of plunger tube. (Nice add-on) and no tool to buy! Once assembled, did function test of 1911 frame. Then checked slide to frame tightness. Ooooo, looks awesome! Test fired firearm using my worst mag, an old original colt military mag from the mid to late 60's, then tested a new kimber mag. Excellent firearm. Dont hesitate to buy this kit, especially if you plan on milling a frame l, like I did. Take your time looking at detail and your firearm will look and function as good as a top shelf manufactured one, at half the price!Read full review

Just an overall phenomenal kit that will compare with 1911s in q much different price range when all hand fit. I recommend Jerry Kuhnhausen’s vol 1 shop manual possibly vol2 if you have the extra funds. Those will allow you to get the most of out this kit. Some files, stones, digital calipers/micrometers and 2 jigs (plunger tube jig and beavertail jig) are all that’s required for fitment. Definitely learn on ton of the first one then the second one should just be knocking it out of the park as with most anything you can build. I’ll definitely be buying another one of these kits for my next one.
