The Rise of the Runelords Player's Guide takes us all the way back to 2007, when Pathfinder was just a brand of adventures made using the 3rd edition of Dungeons & Dragons. It has since developed into an RPG of its own, and the Rise of the Runelords campaign has been revised into a hardcover. This book presents the setting of Varisia and is really the first look a lot of people got about Golarion. It introduces some cool new equipment and feats and is brimming over with flavor. A lot of this information has been updated in other supplements, which makes this a cool piece of history but not a must-have for gamers. Whether you should buy this book in paper format is a matter of why you want it. Are you looking for a quick read or some information you can use in a game? If so, just download the PDF for free over at Paizo's website. If you are a collector, this is a good quality book that won't degrade as long as you store it well. It's worth it to collectors, but not necessary for somebody looking to access it for its gaming lore.Read full review
