This is the book to read if you want to know what it is like to be a firemen in New York City. It is set back when the Bronx were burning and Engine 82 was in the thick of it. Dennis Smith explains the thoughts and the environment that surrounded him as he worked. His descriptions of being on the knob in a room thats about to flash too his few moments of peace in the firehouse, all keep you engrossed in the story. It is a great read if you are a career firemen or just a regular guy who wants to know what the job is like.
