Features Actors: Bill Maher Running Time:101 Min. Rating:R Genre: Documentary Just when you thought Bill Maher couldn’t get any more politically incorrect, he goes and makes a movie like “Religulous.” Despite the controversy it’s sparked, however, the documentary isn’t as un-PC as many are making it out to be. Sure, Maher skewers much of the free world on the utter ridiculousness of religion (hence the title, which is a play on the two words), but he never once suggests that God doesn’t exist. He might allude to it several times, but “Religulous” isn’t about denying God's existence – it's about getting the 16% minority of non-believers that Maher has aimed the film at to stand up and make their voices heard. As a subscriber of the "I don't know" theory, Maher is clearly playing it safe, but that doesn't make "Religulous" any less funny, because the comedy speaks for itself. “Religulous” follows Bill Maher as he travels across America and the rest of the world interviewing people about their religious faith. No stone is left unturned as the political humorist grills everyone from wealthy ministers in $2000 suits to a senior Vatican priest who comically points out that in Italy, Jesus Christ is sixth on the list of saints people pray to. Bill Maher takes a lighthearted approach, but this may still be conterversial to many people.Hope this helps you decide. Thanks for reading! :)Read full review
I had no expectations. The interviews were conducted in a considerate manner. It is obvious that much study of a broad spectrum of religious beliefs was undertaken before the documentary was made. The correct quote for the reference 'it would be easier for a camel to go thru the eye of a needle that a rich man to enter heaven'...was given when the evangelist didn't have it. I enjoyed the animated clips, like comic relief that were included (like 'that party in your pants magic underwear). I liked that when asked about the little voice the interviewer replied "that's you". L, Ron Hubbard might have agreed with this, both Hubbard and the interviewer fear that man's ability to blow himself up exceeds man's logic. I especially liked the closing lines "grow up or die"...I thought geez papa, don't sugar coat it, tell us what you really think.Read full review

I don't agree with all of Bill's political views, but after seeing this documentary, he is my new personal hero. Granted, mocking religions, all of them, is as easy as shooting fish in a barrel, but Bill does it with style, intelligence and humor. I have often thought that if I were supreme dictator of the world, I would allow to exist only religions that could PROVE their way was real and true by having their god(s) appear in person (or spirit; key word here is "appear") before the entire world at a televised news conference, at which those gods would be required to show indisputable evidence in the form of scientifically monitored and recorded miracles. Acolytes, apostles, prophets and practitioners of any given religion who could not convince their god(s) to appear and be acknowledge by the world community, would be sterilized, stripped of the right to vote, and be forcibly tattooed on their foreheads in a bold font the word "IDIOT". But that's just me, and hey, I can dream, can't I? Seriously though, while this gem of a flick makes me feel embarrassed by and sorry for mankind, it did make me laugh out loud. It also only served to bolster my theory that earth is merely the insane asylum of this quadrant of the galaxy. Oh well, better to rule in Hell....Read full review
Unfortunately I never saw this in theaters since the ones near where I live are pro-religious fanatics and banned them out of theaters here. This movie was really underrated in my opinion. No one talked about it much and I believe taht was due to the fact that personal belief got in the way of a good movie. As I said it was not allowed in my local theaters which really annoyed me but now that it's out on dvd I will watch just like how al those so-called "religious fanatics" will behind closed doors because that's the only place where they feel safe and secure. They'll preach about the word of god and sinners and such yet when they get home and kick off those shoes they become the very "sinners" that they were preaching to earlier. Hypocrites. Funny movie from what I've heard and seen. And was not meant to go out and "change the world". It was meant as a funny movie at the expense of mentally challenged religious zealots who believe in hocus pocus. To quote a scene from Family Guy; Lois - "Oh my god he(Mel Gibson) just walked right over the edge!" Peter - "Of course Lois! CHRISTIANS don't BELIEVE in gravity." Whoever doesn't laugh at that and this movie is a prude. Go watch Leave it to Beaver and say hello to Lincoln in the 1800's then old folks.Read full review
