This is a great rc for an adult. If you like to bash this is the rc to get its super fun and the 3s battery slaps right in. The only thing it doesn't like is jumping, the suspension is not perfect and the dog bones are jamming up when its fully compressed (suspension) I ordered the actual joint axles and they should fix the issue. I've beat the snot out of this thing and the only thing that has given me issues are the dog bone axles. even drove this into 5 inches of water full speed and mud. It rinsed right off.

This is a tough review to write. I really want to love this truck for it's great combination of price and performance, but there are some serious issues with durability. I bought this car for my son for his 9th b-day. He was super stoked, and the car is everything we were looking for in terms of performance and fun. The problem is some of the components just aren't designed for the speeds this car is capable of. In the first day of driving on the beach, one of the front drive axles was bent, by the end of the seconnd, the front bumper and mounts had broken off, taking part of the front chassis with it, that drive axle had bent even more and several fasteners had come loose or fallen off. Out of the box, the cat looks great and there are no problems getting it to connect to the radio, but again, there were a few minor conversation that could have been addressed by some simple upgrades. There's a fair bit of slop in the front end from all the plastic parts to the point that the wheels really wobble quite a bit when you move them. A little bit of driving on the beach exacerbated the problem as the bumps and forces involved caused the metal fasteners to 'hog out' a number mounting holes in the soft plastic. I've ordered some aftermarket aluminum parts, we'll see if they fit and address some of the issues. On the up side though, despite the faults, this truck flat rips! The brushless motor has tons of speed- no actual data, but I'D guess close to 40 mph. The RTR version came with a 3300 mAh LiPo battery, good for about 25 minutes of high speed driving. I bought a second battery, 5000 mAh, which gives about 45 minutes of fun. I was in to r/c cars back in the late 80's and the best I got was about 4 minutes per battery. The improvement in performance and running time is just amazing! I dinged RedCat 2 stars for what I see as being questionable materials choices for such a high performance car: why not give the 'Pro' version some aluminum front end parts for added durability to support the performance of the brushless motor? Those front dogbone axles should be strengthened too, to handle the extra power this truck has. RedCat sells the parts as upgrades anyway, why not include them, raise the price by $20 or so, and eliminate this critical issue. One last note- when you get the truck, take the time to check tightness of fasteners and put some thread lock on the drive shaft set screws. They come loose quickly and you'll lose 4-wheel drive. I've ordered spare hardware as well, to replace the few pieces that have come out. In conclusion, this is a really fun car with great performance for the price, but it falls short in the strength/durability area. If the aftermarket parts I bought fit, the strength issues should be addressed, and with that, this will become a great car that really hits the price/performance mark. *Note- I called RedCat to discuss what I saw as issues (front end slop and weak materials) as well as the number of broken, damaged and missing parts in such a short time, they didn't seem to think it was a warranty or quality concern.Read full review

Brand new to hobby-grade RC vehicles. Purchased for my 13 year old son as 2016 Xmas gift. It's very fast - maybe too fast for a beginner but thought better to spend a little more on the "Pro" version now, than to get the non-Pro and possibly spending more $ converting it later. I certainly respect the RC fans where converting is just as fun as driving, but for me it was more about economics. Had I bought the non-Pro, I'd have wanted 1-2 extra batteries and maybe a high-speed charger (since run times on the non-Pro are so much shorter.) That alone about covers the difference between a non-Pro and a Pro. But there's considerable additional expense converting the non-Pro to LIPO/Brushless (which is stock on the Pro) including a new LIPO battery, likely a new charger, brushless motor, and new ESC (Electronic Speed Control), the last of which is fairly pricey from what I understand. While there may be a day I might want to learn how to convert the Pro I purchased, it is more than enough vehicle for my son at the moment. Don't believe I'd be saying the same about the non-Pro. Run times on the Pro are much longer thus avoids the need for extra batteries for now. And it's certainly MUCH faster than the non-Pro. A little sensitive at higher speeds thus a bit hard to control, but assume that's the same for any affordable RC doing 40-50+ mph. So far we've rolled many times, gotten very wet with water/snow, and have had a lot of fun. So no issues yet in that regard. The controller (transmitter) did lose its connection to the vehicle's receiver which, because I'm new, required a lot of online research to diagnose the problem (was afraid a bad ESC, motor, or receiver based on my research.) But after correctly guessing the controller may have lost it's sync to the truck's receiver, then even more research was needed to learn how to "re-bind" the transmitter to the car. Not a big problem in the scheme of things, but for a newbie it was difficult because even though the car is very fun and worth the $, the manual's directions/troubleshooting leave a lot to be desired, which is a common complaint about Redcat from what I've read. The manual offers little in terms of problem identification, and even less on how to correct the problem with step-by-step instructions, which are practically non-existent. It only gives no-value suggestions like "Problem - Motor won't work - Solution: Check connections, charge battery", etc. I found YouTube was my best friend on that. But I say that ONLY about the manual, not about the company itself, who was very responsive to my questions on the phone prior to making this purchase. And from everything I've read online, they seem to have decent customer service along with parts that are fairly easy to find. Regarding the re-bind, I found a YouTube video for a different model Redcat controller, but it worked for mine just the same so I kept notes because I'm thinking it will happen again. But overall I'm pleased with the purchase. For fun and excitement a definite 5-star rating. My experience with calling the company - 4 stars. For troubleshooting problems out of the manual (like what a particular blinking light might mean and directions for how to fix), or for other common problems and/or for programming the ESC, the manual gets 2 or less stars. There is a programming mode on the ESC where you can change various settings if desired, but the manual only shows how to go about changing the settings - - even then those are difficult to understand. But aside from that, there's no real explanation into each of the settings and the differences between the various levels of settings, nor is there info as to how or why you might want to change them to begin with, or even if/when I should be changing them (i.e. are the settings only for upgrading, or can I change on my current "stock" vehicle to get the car to perform differently?) As an RC newcomer I simply don't know and the manual really doesn't do much to guide me through the purpose behind most of the settings. Need layman terms not technical jargon. But I chalk this up as growing pains associated with learning a new hobby. But a fun entry-level LIPO RC for the price. Overall I'm happy with this purchase, and so is my boy!Read full review

I have owned numerous r/c cars and trucks, many of which have been Traxxas and Tamiya. I recently got the r/c itch back and decided to go for a different brand. The price is what caught my eye first, super affordable for a 1/10 scale truck (compared to the HPI and Traxxas). If you're looking for a great starter truck, look no further. If you're truly a beginner, I don't recommend the EPX PRO. Go for the brushed model, the brushless is ridiculously quick out of the box and if your not careful, you will wreck it pretty fast. Its not the most durable product, but it's cheap. If you're going to be bashing expect to replace stuff. Its no different than other models, take care of it and it will provide tons of entertainment. I mis-judged a jump and hit a garbage can, completely destroyed the front bumper and cracked the body pretty badly. However, the volcano still performs flawlessly. I totally recommend this product to all hobbyists. Again,if you're looking for a beginner truck, DO NOT get this model. Start with a brushed model and go from there, the brushed volcano is less money and still a great product. If you don't know what you're doing, you're going to break your truck (or yourself, I'm not kidding, it's fast on 2s lipo). I truly think Redcat Racing has some growing to do, and a few things can be improved upon. However, this is a fantastic truck for the price, and parts are plentiful if you're content with waiting on shipping. I would have given 5 stars, but the body and bumpers on my Traxxas can withstand the same impact with ease.Read full review

Super fast truck with 2s lipo. Some things you will need to upgrade right away. Either put thin washers behind the stock wheel nuts or get flanged wheel nuts (Really cheap.) Get aluminum wheel hex set (goes inside the back of the rims) the plastic ones will strip pretty quick. Again really cheap upgrade. SkyLipo is a cheaper but good battery. Go with 5000mah 40c if you can. 20c is good but I spring for the higher c rating. There are tons of aluminum upgrades for this super fast truck and over time you will want to upgrade just because it looks great! Of course it will be more durable as well but let me tell you I have only broke one part and ordered it direct from redcat racing and shipping was fast. The part I broke was my fault but I have crashed hard and jump huge hills daily. I bash the crap out of it and it has held up. I recommend this to anyone that just wants to get into the hobby but be aware that it is really fast with lipo batteries and if you are a beginner then get ready!Read full review
