After three years back into Radio, after spending thousands of dollars on radios and gear, I was about ready to get out, and take up stamp collection. I am in a very poor location for propagation, on the 44th Latitude, in the middle of the North American landmass and surrounded by the Earth's largest iron ore fields. Normally not a problem if the iron ore is below you, but it is a huge problem when you are down in a narrow canyon, which is bad enough, but then the iron ore is above you and blankets you like a rug in certain conditions. I had tried many different radios, Yaesu, Kenwood, RCI base stations, even big amplifiers. Nothing worked. My last attempt was going to be to try a modern radio with modern technology and see if something with exception receive side design could overcome all the minuses of my location and bring in the signals. Not only has the RCI 2970N2 done all that, but it also gets out pretty good to. I got nothing to complain about. :o)Read full review

Great little radio. Clean modulation, 200 watts of power and excellent receive circuitry. Always good reports. A definite bang for the buck!

Punchy audio. VERY sensitive receiver. Mine came with free expansion chip, I wasn't aware of this. Now covers 24-32mhz and CB channels 1-40 appear. These are $30 to buy anyway. I suggest a FAN underneath the radio at least 120mm. Yes. Stable, no drift noticeable. Don't use headphones in speaker, you get a loud clunk ! from the relay. Loves the Imax 2000 antenna from 12-10m no swr problems. N2 board can be swapped with an N4 board to give 400w. A real MANS radio !!!
