This was my first home video game! Some people can rate vintage things pretty tough, but really, this thing was pretty sweet for the time it came out, which was around 1977. At the time, I was a master at this - I could play all the games on the fastest speed, etc. Not so much now, but it's still pretty fun to play! It's has very basic game play and black and white graphics - basically lines, numbers, borders, and the ball. I purchased one from ebay because I wanted to try it out again and see if it was still fun after all these years. It is! The biggest problem is getting a good picture once you hook it up to your TV. I used the F-Connector (COAX) Male to RCA (Phono) female adapter (RadioShack part# 278-276). On one TV it was pretty fuzzy and the screen kept jumping and rolling. On the other TV it looked great! Same connection, just the different ways each TV handles the signal, I suppose. So now you know if you're testing one and it looks awful, try another TV! The TV Scoreboard was Radio Shack's version of 'Pong'. They made at least 2 different units in this style - one with the gun and one without. The one with no gun has blue buttons compared to the black ones with the shooting games. It takes 6 AA batteries, or an AC adapter (which I have never used). You can't use the shooting games on LCD/flat panel TV's - there's some problem with the contrast not being bright enough for the light gun to pick up. This is the same for the classic Nintendo light gun. No duck hunt on a new TV. That doesn't stop you from playing the other games, though! You have: Squash, Practice, Hockey, and Tennis - Target and Skeet are the shooter games. I like that it's simple to connect, and it's easy to figure out the games (wink wink). My only dislike would be that there's no volume control. The sound doesn't come from the TV, but rather a built-in speaker on the bottom of the unit. If you're trying to sneak out and play some pong, you're going to have to put it on a pillow to muffle the sound! Overall, this is a fun trip back to the roots of home video games. You can see how far and how fast we've come in only 36 years! It's still fun, and if you've never played an authentic pong game, it's a great place to start - just remember, this is before 8 bit so you have to take it for what it is - a fun and early video game that's not a graphics powerhouse.Read full review
I'm giving a good review, my product didn't work but I understand because of its age so I'll keep it as a shelf item or possibly get it fixed.
Verified purchase: Yes | Condition: Pre-owned
I bought this on a whim, because it looked neat, and I love retro games. I didn't know what to expect, but for 10 bucks, i couldn't really go wrong. Surprisingly, it was actually really fun and addictive!
Optimal purchase. I'm a collector of old computers and game console and such acquisition will enhance my collection. Very good. thank you
