Put it on a Mini 14 (580), that has the full length Scout rail. I'm switching from red dot mounted on scout rail to a scope mounted above the action and still wanted to use my iron sight in local matches without removing the scope. The Ruger stock rail does not work as the bolt that holds the scope mount on the provided low cut picatinny rail blocks the sight. The new Picatinny Scope Rail hangs over the action by 3/4". I had to cut off 3/4" off the front (side with double mounting holes) to get it to fit without overhanging onto the front scout rail. I then sanded the edge smooth and used a blackening agent on the cut part to make it Black. Turned out very nice and solved my special needs. See Pic

I never was able to use due to one of the mounting screws stripping out while attempting to mount on my Mini 30. Due to the straight blow back design of the Mini 30 it has a deserve reputation of destroying cheap optics. So I acquired a tactical scope that was designed to be punished but the tube size was larger than the standard ruger rings. So I bought this base mount so I could use the proper size rings but one of the mount screws stripped out.

This for the price, is a very good deal. It fits exactly to the rifle receivers machined in scope ring locations and the sighting hole through its length let you use your open site leaf. The cutout on its side allows casings to eject cleanly. It's aluminum is of good quality and nicely finished. It is long enough that a removable carry handle from the AR 15 can be mounted on it and thus an AR scope can used if desired. Just about any size regular or dot scope easily fit on the rail with enough eye relief to get the correct sight picture. Although there are no tabs in the casting to fit into the receivers slots the provided mounting screws seem to allow a very secure fit to the receiver top at the correct locations. A few hundred rounds of 762x39 with a dot sight on it and its stayed in place.Read full review

I installed this on my mini 30. Fits very nice. Better than some ruger accessories. I see how some people could strip out the threads on the screws, but just be easy and slowly tighten/center them down and you won’t have a issue. I used the long end of the allen wrench so I couldn’t get to carried away. I used some blue loctite on mine just to stay tight. I installed a truglo 30mm on the rail it is fits and looks great. You can see the factory sight perfectly through the center on the rail. Didn’t know what to expect for the money and the 50/50 reviews on this product but it’s worth the money for sure. Especially considering the other rails online are 5-7 times the money and the reviews are 50/50 on them also.

The mount fits well but does not have a stop or protrusion on the underside to prevent movement forward or backwards, and it does not have a cutout for the shells to eject. You can make your own modifications so that it fits more securely and you can cut out a section for the shells to eject if necessary for your particular rifle. I purchased the mount before I purchased he rifle, then found that factory mount comes in the box and it fits more securely. It is certainly inexpensive and may work well for you if you already own your rifle and are on a budget.
