At first I was turned off by the size of the receiver, verses its weight. Its really big for such a light piece of equipment! The whole receiver weighs a few pounds tops! Anyways, the display is large and clear. The blue is soothing in the dark. A dimmer function also is available. The volume difference is noticeable when switching from various source inputs. The source signal strength definitely changes the gain. However, the system has VERY low internal signal interference, and provides no audible static from the hardware itself. A quiet signal can easily be played at full gain on the system without an audible hiss. The MP3 function is actually really useful in certain situations. I have mine connected to a cable box with a COAX digital cable, and my XBOX to the optical. Dolby DIGITAL DSP!!! Totally great deal!Read full review
Its a nice small system. Not exactly what you would use for a home theater system to integrate to all your toys, but made for a good simple system for a vaction home. Loud enough for a medium size room, but not something you would use to crank out tunes for an outside party. I like the USB feature. With a 8gb card I can play tunes for hours. The random play mode for the USB is not that random. It plays every 4 songs on your drive and rotates throught the list. What sucks about that is when you plug it back in, you start all over again, listening to the same random songs you already heard. The FM receiver does not pull in those long distance stations all that good and I had to attach a better antenna. The subwoofer has only three settings and you have to have it connected to the control plug in the back of the unit. The plug and socket are very small and the socket is not exactly secured. After only two times plugging and unplugging it now is slightly pushed up and in where you can't get the plug back in. I had to trim the corded end to get past the metal frame and into the socket. You will need the subwoofer for any type of bass sound and you will be setting it to maximum. The system is not a Bose, so don't expect the speakers to be either. If you are looking for a good home theater system for your HDTV, Blueray, and surround sound, then this is NOT it. But I knew that when I purchased it. I just needed a cheap stereo system that played MP3 files and could support playing audio off a video DVD if I wanted. It almost met my expectation. I was hoping for a bit more volume out of it, but then again, I have not hooked up any other speakers to it to see if it could drive them without distortion.Read full review
I bought this system used on another website for just under $48, which included shipping. I bought it for a lady friend of mine who just bought a new Samsung TV and was thinking about getting a sound bar. I strongly recommended that she go with a 5.1 surround sound system, and since I'm an audio head, I took the liberty of finding her this system. I downloaded the manual before receiving it, so I would know ahead of time how to efficiently and effectively install it. This is key. For those complaining about the volume, my guess is that they kept the speaker settings at 0. You can adjust each speaker level, including the subwoofer to increase the level up to +10. Once that is done, and I had the sound setting on "theater", and the subwoofer on "Powerful" ("strong" is good too), this little puppy packs a MIGHTY PUNCH! My friend and I watched Bad Boys 1 &2, and in this setting, it was plenty loud at maybe 34 out of 50 max volume. It may have been less than 34 in fact. I can assure you, for your typical family room, you will be very satisfied with the volume output IF you ADJUST THE STOCK SETTINGS!!! This is key to getting the most out of the system. Trust me. Read your manual guys! Make the adjustments, and then sit back and enjoy your system!Read full review

The last.....well....the first one i bought back in '89.....or was it 1990....anyway it truly has lasted that long. This spring it only started being the RCA HOME THEATER SYSTEM i once remembered and another one just like it seemed to be the perfect replacement. Has a 101 CD carousel hookup to it with so many sound options (hallway-stadium-etc.) not to be impressed with this particular model.
