Queer as Folk is a groundbreaking TV series that shattered many taboos concerning the gay communities of america. Following the lives of 5 gay men and 2 lesbian women, it's easiest to call it a gay person's "Sex and the City", but it is definitely more than just that. Every episode has a huge political statement to make, whether its about gay marriage, job discrimination, or family disownment. This is a brutally realistic vision of life in a gay district, with promiscuous sex, constant drug use, and life with HIV are all touched on and never shied away from. The characters are all extremely complex individuals who challenge stereotypical views of all gays and also entertain immensely. This is also a very funny show, as it is constantly taking things in stride and joking all the way. Sometimes the show can be so witty and sarcastic that it could be mistaken for a comedy at first glance. Season 3 is my favorite because of the inner-conflicts that rage throughout (characters who sell out to work with homophobes, a meth addict losing all of his friends, steroid use to combat HIV, etc.) and is probably the most emotionally engaging. The best show ever? Maybe not, but it's pretty damn important, and it's still pretty damn close.Read full review
This is a high quality show. The narration and plot is very full unlike other cheap productions of similar nature. This is not your typical show about the lives of people who are gay. Every day isn't just decorating or styling your hair. Its real people with real issues like business ownership, death of family members, purchasing a home, the birth of children, and much more. Of course, there are many things that are different in the life of someone who is openly gay, and this show is the only one edgy enough to show it. Whether it is losing your rights over your child, being spit upon, beaten into a coma, or having a bomb go off at your equal rights gathering, Queer as Folk touches all aspects of life. And that includes sex, lots of it. If you are ready to pull the plug on Christopher Lowel, Queer Eye for the Straight Guy, and Ellen, and see REAL LIFE through the eyes of the gay community, it is time for you to start watching QUEER AS FOLKRead full review
Everything was crispy new, didn't look like it had been sitting around on the shelf for 20 yrs. The price was a little steep for my pocketbook, ergo 4 stars.

What I like about Queer As Folk is the fact that it's a well written drama about gays. The story line is engaging and the characters are very easy to fall in love with. Sure, Queer As Folk may not represent a totally accurate portrayel of real life, but neither do many other dramas or soap operas on TV. I decided to buy Queer As Folk because it's an entertaining series and I love the characters! If you're looking for a new show to get addicted to...You need look no further than Queer As Folk.
