I was skeptical on getting my printer to work again. Repeated problems from bad ink cartridges I bought as a "bargain" price led me to discover this printer's weakness.. the hinges. The picture's in the add were great because they gave me an idea of how many screws were in the hinge. I also purchased a set of Torx wrenches on Ebay to take the unit apart. Note, the screws above the hinges at the rear of the unit hold a small plastic piece that is a stop. With that piece removed you can access the screws for the hinges or the lid won't open more than 60 degrees. Beware the top door for doing "book" copy must be secured or it will fall open on its own when you raise the lid to access the screws. I really didn't think this printer would work again but to my surprise, the one hinge I replaced saved the machine. It works! Being I didn't believe I had the skills I also purchased a spare printer. This 6310 HP printer does everything I want so why buy a newer model that may not? Besides I have ordered new ink to have on hand and of course, the week after the ink arrived the hinge broke. Please be advised that these hinges are stiff when first received. I took time to "exercise" the part and applied a drop of 3in1 oil on the contact points between the two halves and worked them holding the larger part by hand and using a pair of pliers to hang onto the other half while I moved the hinge through its range. Work the hinge ten degrees at a time, back and forth until smooth range and ease of motion are obtained. Hope you have as good or better experience than I had. Plastic, go easy, don't force things too hard and it will go back together for you. Cheers, Doug.Read full review

It's great to see that these parts are available, and were delivered in good time. I was disappointed however by the lack of lubricant in them especially the large the hinge, which makes it hard to compress and makes noise. That doesn't mean that they are all that way. But hopefully the manufacturer will take note and do something to make sure that all that are sold would be very well lubricated.

Exactly as described, perfect replacement for the broken hinge on an otherwise good HP Officejet 6310 printer. Easy to make this repair.

These are hinges, they are a pain in the butt to install but with some time and perseverance you too can give your printer a new lease on life.
