I decided to check this movie out, The Extended Cut after watching War Zone. This movie is actually is pretty decent, although I can see why this disappointed some people. The Punisher is a Sympathetic figure and not just SHOOT EM UP emotionless killer. The action in the movie is good but if you're looking for gory action scenes, skip this movie and watch Punisher: War Zone instead. Persoanlly, I feel this version of The Punisher has a more fleshed out story and better character development. The Extended Cut introduces Jimmy Weeks a friend of Frank Castle and their relationship starts off good but leads to betrayal. It also has a animated scene in Kuwait as the intro to the movie.
The review is not just for Punisher,it's also for Daredevil and Elektra.Elektra was ok.It was a different story line than Daredevil. You would figure they would connect, but they don't,except for one thing. If you collect Superhero movies I'd get it,but if you don't,than I don't recommend it.The Punisher and Daredevil I liked, even though I'm not really that into the Daredevil character.I found the movie interesting. The Punisher character I like. The movie was good. The only thing about Punisher I don't like is they have to keep re-telling the story over about his family getting killed.I even think they do that in the new one as well. For people that don't know this is the second Punisher movie. The new movie,The Punisher Warzone is the third installment, even though I don't think they connect. Also for people that don't know Dolph Lundgren was the first Punisher. So that makes three different actors for the role of Punisher.I don't like when they keep changing the actors.Read full review
I'm writing a review of this specific DVD and I grade it below average because of the extras it has beyond what the first DVD had, and because of what it DOESN'T have. The most worthwhile extra this edition has over the first one is the deleted storyline involving Frank Castle's FBI partner. It deals with how and why he was involved in getting Frank's family slaughtered. Although interesting, I can see how they felt it could be deleted from the movie without hurting the story. Frankly, I wish they'd filmed a lot more scenes with the cool, flat-black '69 GTO. Now that would be deleted scenes worth seeing. The other much trumpeted scenes that were added to this edition were the so-called animated Kuwait battle scenes. First of all, they weren't actually animated. They were just still drawings flashed onscreen. Secondly, I don't feel the additional storyline really added anything at all important to Frank's backstory or character. The main reason for the below average rating of this edition is that the first DVD had MUCH better extras. The behind the scenes features on the making of the movie, the stunts, Thomas Jane's training and the money problems that hampered the director and hurt the movie are very comprehensive and very good. And none of these are on the second DVD, making the second edition not worth getting. After seeing the features on the first DVD, I actually liked the movie better because I understood WHY the theatre version was not all it could have been. If you're going to get the DVD, get the first one, with Thomas Jane as the Punisher on the box cover.Read full review
It's hard to review like 9 movies at the same time and avoid lulling my fellow ebayers to sleep, so I'll try to condense and combine and edit the best I can. The winners here are Iron Man, the X-men movies and The Punisher. For the rest, I pretty much already sold the others. I kept Ghost Rider, for at least sounding faithful to the comic (if you haven't guessed, the winners I've seen and liked, and the rest have the jury still out cuz I haven't viewed them yet), and Fantastic Four because I'm sure it'll be fine and I've heard good things about it anyway. I just wish I could've gotten "The Last Stand" and the original FF to complete the collection, but it looks like those are more valuable, and this was just a lot of movies. The rest can get the boot: The Hulk; the first one was dreadful and I don't know how Edward Norton and Liv Tyler make it any better. I heard mostly positive talk, but ignored it in favor of reducing clutter and monetary gain. Elektra; don't know, don't care; it looks like one of the worst screenplays in the last 10+ years and Jennifer Garner simply can't do the character justice, no matter how hard she tries. Finally, Wolverine.....sucked, straight and simple. I have the Ultimate 3-Disc Blu-ray, so I have no use for it. X-men 1&2 were awesome, and Tom Jane's Punisher, although a little generic and inaccurate is one of THE best comic book adaptations ever released. Watch the fight with the russian, and you'll agree that this movie is a masterpiece, right up there with T2 and Die Hard! When I decide which Iron Man movie I like better, I'll right the review for the sequel which I own, but didn't buy here. How do ya like that?!? Short, huh? Lol!Read full review
There have been 3 movies made about this character. The 1st was was done in the 80's with Dolph Lundgren playing the lead role and with the exception of a few bad one liners and "hokey" acting in places, it actually wasnt too awful bad. The newest movie done in 2009 was OK, but it seemed to me to be more focused on brutal, blatant violence than a foundational story line. They did finally introduce Jigsaw in the newest release, but In my opinion, His character was "a miss". This Punisher movie (2004) is by far the best acted and directed. Its fairly true to the comic book form of frank Castle. Thomas janes NAILS the character! And John Travolta is, as it turns out an EXCELLENT punisher Villian! Great movie, great plot, Well acted by all invloved. If your into "shoot em up's" and "revenge flicks" Ya gotta get this one!Read full review
