This camera had been serviced in USA approx 8 years before purchase and was in very nice condition with everything working properly including the Photomic metering head. I wanted a solid manual camera which could be relied upon to work well in all weather conditions, and despite its years, could still be professionally serviced here in the UK. There are plenty of pre Ai Nikon and aftermarket lenses available for it, so if you don't want to risk a particular Nikon lens in bad weather, there is always a viable alternative. Being a modular system is advantageous for differing photographic situations. You have 100% viewfinder, so what you see IS exactly what's on the film, not almost as with most other cameras. I preferred the F2 over the F partly because of the problems with parts for the F Photomic head, plus the F2 has a hinged back, whereas the F back was completely detachable. This may sound trivial to some, but trying to change film when hands are numb with cold and wet as well is easier with a hinged back for the camera. I've had enough difficulties with correct alignment of detached backs, plus locking them in such conditions and shivering at the same time. By the time I get the camera loaded, the lighting has changed again, and I've lost the shot. Another trivial point is the F2 has a large comfortable plastic tip to the wind-on lever, as opposed to the metal only one on the F which I prefer. I don't have any real use for motor drives, but they are available. Interchangeable screens are a boon with different lenses as well for personal preferences. All in all its a great workhorse which will keep on going long after a lot of digital cameras will.Read full review
Well built manual pre ai Nikon camera, so a great way to use those cheaper pre AI Nikkor lenses. The DP-2 meter is good, but bulky, giving the F2S untidy lines compared to other F2 Photomics. The F2Sb and F2AS are better looking as well as having reputedly better meters. That said, my F2S has never given me any trouble. The other models mentioned above cost a fair whack more than the F2S, so if you're on a budget an F2S is one to think about alongside the DP-1 equipped F2 Photomic. All versions of the F2 are great.....better in many ways and with a different character to the F. Every Nikon enthusiast should try at least one!
I like very much cameras made from metal and glass not plastic. This is one of the best of this kind. The item was in superb contition. Michael
