Nobody does spy thrillers like the British. Especially the 60's stuff. Intellectual, thrilling, tricky. If your a believer in the 'Atuer' theory; that the author or creator should have the most influence over the art, then The Prisoner will especially delight. Patrick McGoohan produced, wrote, directed and starred in The Prisoner. He used two pseudonyms when writing : Paddy Fitz for "Free for All" and Joseph Serf for "A Change of Mind". He also wrote "Once Upon A Time" and "Fall Out" using his own name. Synopsis- The leading character, Number Six, is apparently a former secret agent of the British government during the Cold War. He is never identified by name and the exact nature of his job is never explicitly indicated, though numerous episodes provide clues. After resigning his position, he is kidnapped and held prisoner in a small, isolated, eccentric seaside resort town known only as the Village. The authorities there (whose identity and allegiance are never made clear) attempt to determine — "by hook or by crook" — why Number 6 resigned. Throughout the series Number 6 tries to escape while defying all attempts to break his will. He also sets out to discover the identity of the mysterious "Number 1", who presumably runs the Village.Read full review
