This is Tom Tierney's original paperdoll book with 28 fairy tale era outfits from early in Diana's marriage (23 are for Diana, Charles is limited to 5.) The outfits comprise both formal and informal attire beginning with Diana's fabulous wedding gown and continuing through to Prince Harry's Christening Day. Captions tell where each costume was worn and who designed it. I wish Tom would do more of these folios. He has Diana's expression, body language & details down to a science. He also documented some of Diana's fabulous dresses from the 1997 Christie's charity auction. I'm not a paperdoll fan in particular--I find them rather two dimensional and flat for my taste--but I appreciate the research and talent required by books such as this one. Not only are the gowns finely drawn, they are done in such a way as to match Diana's contemporary hairstyle to the outfits. The book is a splendid reference for the outfits that are included. I decided to buy one myself because I collect Princess Diana dolls, and this book is another form of doll, albeit drawn on paper. While I much prefer three dimensional dolls with hair and fabric clothing, I recommend it very highly for anyone interested in paper dolls or even regular dolls. The drawings can be used by dressmakers to recreate Diana's gowns in miniature and can be used by doll collectors to make accessory choices. The book is excellent, both in quality and the variety of outfits.Read full review
