Prior to purchasing a food dehydrator, I spend a considerable amount of time researching and studying most of the home size food dehydrators common to the market. One of the facts I learned is that some of the lower powered units have limited capacities regarding some foods due to the required temperature to safely dry that kind of food. This unit does not disappoint yielding enough power to expand to the highest possible capacity and still safely dry any kind of food. Options are another item considered with the Presto winning offering the most complete package with digitally settable temperature and timer with a simple and easy to read display and intuitive controls. It also has the optional fruit roll up trays and a fine mesh screen for expanded functionality. The trays stack one way and it expands for use and stacked the other way they nest for storage with the lid still fitting tightly on top to help keep the insides clean while being stored. It's light enough that I can easily put it on top of the fridge when not in use. The capacity is pretty impressive too. I have dried about two pounds of lean ground beef into jerky in a single batch. I also added a jerky gun which helps making jerky considerably easier. I think some units come with it and if I did it all over again, I would try to select one that comes with it.Read full review

This machine is well designed, and includes 6 nesting trays, 2 fruit roll sheets, and 2 non-stick mesh screens. While well worth the price I paid ($55), expanding to 12 trays, the price of expanding (2 trays for $25 or more) adds up fast. (It is cheaper to purchase another unit than to purchase 6 more trays.) With a bumper crop of mango this year, I purchased this to make fruit leathers. A bit of experimentation was required to find the right time and temperature; 100 degrees vs. the manufacturer's recommended 135 degrees for 9 hours. While many reviewers complain of the noisy fan, it is actually the sound of moving so much air. Changing the air flow design might reduce the noise, but it is quiet enough to be easily ignored.

Works great.I'm really glad I got the one with the timer. Makes excellent venison jerky in about 5-6 hrs depending on the thickness.Very simple to use.

Just finished my first batch of jerky. I was able to load more than I thought on the six racks that come with it. I will be ordering more racks now that I know this thing does the job. 4 1/2 hours to dry what my buddies are doing with theirs in 12. Easy to set time and temp and easy cleanup. I'm glad I went with the digital model. I highly recommend this product.

So far so good. Nesting trays a real plus. Had a little trouble setting temps and times but worked that out, probably didn't read directions. The timer is a plus as opposed to temperature only. Not hard to clean trays but not a snap either, that's just the nature of it, no getting around it.
