The rater will not permit 1/2 stars - otherwise I would have given 4 1/2 Stars. These are older, discontinued speakers. I am not sure I would have been as happy with them had I paid full MSRP back in the day, but if you can find them in good used condition, worth a look. Fact is - these are not often for sale, so that should tell you something right there. These need power, I would not go below 75 wpc. You may want to bi-wire - depends upon your ear I suppose. All in all these are very nice speakers. Overall sound is clean and pleasing. Tweeter not exceptionally bright, but not fatiguing. Bass is punchy but not chest-thumping. Imaging and sound stage is excellent. Overall appearance is very nice - other than the cheap plastic cover floor-plate. What were they thinking there? Overall, very happy with these speakers. Easy to get used to and the sound will make you smile. You may find yourself listening to your system more than you had previously.Read full review

I originally purchased the Polk RTi12 for my front speakers which was hands down one of the best investments I have made in my home theater system. I purchased the RTi8 to use for my rear surrounds and this too was my second investment. What an incredible series of speakers. The imaging is second to none, and the realism and volume they can sustain will have you scared at first. Its as if your right in the middle of the chaos on the TV and I have found myself ducking and spilling my popcorn in action scenes. I was afraid at first I might damage the speaker but it continues to remain consistent in its performance and it seems to barely breathe when I think Im making it work. Many say that this line was the best of the Polk series and to this day out perform the new series that replaced it. I can not speak for that as I have not heard the new series. I was so excited to be able to purchase these new from Polk direct and got them at a price that was half of what they were when they were first produced. I was going to originally purchase another set of RTi12's for the rears and although the price was good, it was a bit over my budget at the time. I am still considering getting a second pair as my ultimate upgrade, thats how much I love this series. I would encourage anybody to purchase these speakers and a healthy amp to have them perform at the maximum. Really, you cant go wrong nor will you regret investing in Polk speakers period. They also compliment any living room, they are beautiful pieces of furniture. Go for it!Read full review
First let me say that if you want to get the most out of the RTi8's you will need an amplifier/receiver rated with at least 100 continuous watts per channel RMS. (not 100 watts dynamic power or "maximum" power) The more power the better. I had these powered with a Pioneer 80 watts per channel amp and they sounded decent. I then hooked them up to a 165 watts per channel RMS ONKYO M-504 amp and that's when they really shined. These speakers love to be fed power. I have had my amp peaking over 200 watts per channel and the RTi8's didn't flinch a bit. Most run of the mill home theater receivers on the market today will not do these speakers justice for 2 channel audio listening. (not enough power or headroom) Alot of user reviews state that you will need a powered subwoofer with the RTi8's and I guess that might be true for the "home theater experience" for movies but if you have these powered by an amp/receiver like I mentioned above then you won't need a subwoofer unless you just want enough bass to wake the dead. I use the RTi8's for 2 channel music only. I have a polk Audio home theater set up in my living room and the RTi8's are in my spare room with my 2 channel equipment for when I want to listen to music. If your are into vintage high powered 2 channel amps and receivers you will love the RTi8's paired with a nice vintage monster amp/receiver. Pink Floyd sounds awesome on these speakers. You will hear things in the music that you never heard before. I have listened to all genres of music with the RTi8's and they are well suited for whatever type of music you are in to. Rap, country, classic rock, pop, techno... it doesn't matter. The highs are clear and crisp and the mids are perfect. There are ample lows and the bass is tight and not boomy. I have a pair of Polk Monitor 70's also and the RTi8's seem a little "brighter" than the 70's especially at higher volume. A friend of mine has an adcom 200 watt per channel amp with a pair of Klipsch Cornwalls and when he heard my RTi8's he commented that they sound a little better than his Klipsch Cornwalls. He was very surprised considering the price difference between the RTi8's and the Cornwalls. Summary: You will not find a better sounding speaker for the price. BAR NONE. If you are just wanting a good speaker for home theater use for movies and such then the RTi8's will not let you down. You will be amazed at the sound reproductiion of the RTi8's. If you are more into the 2 channel music scene and you pair the RTi8's with the right amp/receiver you will be more than satisfied with the results. I know I am. REMEMBER..and I can't stress this enough...If you are serious about audio equipment then it's all about the right amplifier/receiver with enough power to make the RTi8's shine. Anything less and you will be disappointed and left wanting more.Read full review
I actually purchased the Polk TSi400 speakers because the other ones were too tall to fit into our decor. however we are very happy with our choice of the Polk tower loudspeakers. We eliminated a pair of large bookshelf speakers which were combined with a JBL subwoofer. The Polk loudspeakers have plenty of bass and do not need the subwoofer. We are very happy with purchase. Typically we listen to country folk jazz and some rock music we can even crank up banjo music and it actually sounds good... when loud Banjos sound good you know you have some nice speakers!
Excellent sounding warm defined mids with bass punch. Highs not harsh. Easy listening set of speakers will be purchasing more rti models in the future.
